Il beato Pino Puglisi come educatore
2019

Using a Multidimensional Measure of Resilience to Explain Life Satisfaction and Academic Achievement of Adults With Reading Difficulties.
2014
We assessed the impact of intrapersonal and interpersonal resilience, persistence, and number of difficulties in addition to reading problems on life satisfaction (general, social, and self) and academic achievement. A total of 120 adults with reading difficulties who either were completing a university degree or were recent graduates responded to an in-lab or online survey. Results indicated that intrapersonal resilience correlated positively with interpersonal resilience and persistence, and both resilience factors were negatively associated with number of difficulties. Using structural equation modeling, intrapersonal resilience explained general satisfaction, intrapersonal resilience a…

Long‐term molecular differences between resilient and susceptible mice after a single traumatic exposure
2022
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a heterogeneous disorder induced by trauma, resulting in severe long-term impairments of an individual's mental health. PTSD does not develop in every individual and, thus, some individuals are more resilient. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are poorly understood. Here, we aimed to elucidate these processes. We used a single-trauma PTSD model in mice to induce long-term maladaptive behaviours and profiled the mice 4 weeks after trauma into resilient or susceptible individuals. The classification of phenotype was based on individual responses in different behavioural experiments. We analysed microbiome, circulating endocannabinoids, and lo…
Neoclerodane Diterpenoids from Teucrium massiliense
1998
A reinvestigation of the diterpene metabolites of Teucrium massiliense L. allowed the isolation of four new neoclerodane derivatives, teumassilenins A-D, together with all the diterpenoids previously reported as constituents of this plant. The structures of the new compounds (1-4) were established by chemical and spectroscopic means. A plausible biogenetic relationship between several of these substances is briefly discussed, and some unpublished physical and spectroscopic data of the previously known diterpenoid teumassin (5) are now reported.
The Principle of Inferential Justification, Scepticism, and Causal Beliefs
2000
There is an argumentative route that begins with a platitude like: The Principle of Inferential Justification (PIJ): 'To be justified in believing one proposition P on the basis of another proposition E, one must be (1) justified in believing E, (2) justified in believing that E makes probable P' and ends up by challenging our capacity to justifiedly believing propositions concerning physical objects and past events. This is, at least, what Richard Fumerton claims, but, like Christopher Hookway, I doubt that there is such a route. In the coming pages, I seek to show how Hookway's challenge may find additional motivation in a reflection on the content of a certain kind of belief, namely: bel…
