No evidence of ATP1A2 involvement in 12 multiplex Italian families with benign familial infantile seizures
2005
A missense mutation in the gene encoding the alpha(2) Subunit of the Na+,K+ ATPase pump (ATP1A2) was found in a family with both familial hemiplegic migraine (FHM) and Benign Familial Infantile Seizures (BFIC). As it is still unclear whether ATP1A2 is responsible for pure BFIC syndromes, we checked mutations of the ATP1A2 gene in probands of 12 Italian multiplex families with pure BFIC, who were negative for mutations in the SCN2A gene. We screened the ATP1A2 gene by denaturing high performance liquid chromatography (D-HPLC) and direct sequencing of DNA fragments showing an aberrant elution pattern. We found one exonic variant and five intronic variants, none leading to significant amino ac…
Cadmium-binding proteins in midgut gland of freshwater crayfishProcambarus clarkii
1989
Metallothioneins, metal binding proteins, were originally isolated and characterized by Margoshes and Vallee. These proteins have a high affinity for various heavy metals, particularly cadmium and mercury and have extensively been studied in mammals. Metal binding proteins have been observed in a variety of marine invertebrates; however, there is very little information available on metal binding proteins in freshwater invertebrates, and particularly in freshwater crustaceans. Cadmium is an ubiquitous non essential element which possesses high toxicity to aquatic organisms. Cadmium binding proteins observed in invertebrates have similar characteristics to mammalian metallothioneins. In 1978…

Professionals and consumer in the liquid society: From status to states, or from Diocletian to Bauman
2020
The essay critically analyses the consolidated orientation of the Court of Cassation according to which the consumer legislation is not applicable to professionals who make a contract for the purchase of goods and services that they will use to work. For example, lawyers do not only stipulate mandates or make consultancy contracts with their clients, but also make all the contracts that are necessary or useful for the fulfillment of their professional practice; these acts may include the purchase of legal texts and professional indemnity insurance, or the supply of cleaning, electricity, gas and telephone services for their legal firms.
Detection system for depth profiling of radiotracers
2002
A reliable and efficient detection system essentially needed in the depth profiling of radiotracers consisting of two large PIN-diode arrays has been constructed. The requirements put forward to the detector system and the ability of the PIN-diode array to meet these demands are discussed. A comparison to a conventionally used liquid scintillation detector is presented by measuring an as-implanted 31Si profile in amorphous T21 ceramic by both apparatuses.
New ionic liquid-modified silica gels as recyclable materials for L-proline- or H-Pro-Pro-Asp-NH2-catalyzed aldol reaction
2007
l-proline and the tripeptide H-Pro-Pro-Asp-NH2 (1) have been supported, by adsorption, onto the surface of modified silica gels functionalized with a monolayer of covalently attached 1,2-dimethyl-imidazolium chloride, tetrafluoroborate or hexafluorophosphate ionic moieties, respectively. Three different linkers were used to attach the ionic liquid moiety to the surface of these supports. The resulting materials have been used as catalysts for the aldol reaction between acetone and several substituted benzaldehydes. Good yields and enantioselectivities, comparable to or better than those obtained under homogeneous conditions, were obtained. These materials are easily recovered by filtration,…
Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria for binary and ternary systems composed of water, 1-propanol, and 2-propanol at 100 kPa
1996
Isobaric vapor−liquid equilibria data were obtained for the 2-propanol + 1-propanol binary system and the water + 1-propanol + 2-propanol ternary system at 100 kPa. The data were found to be thermodynamically consistent according to the Van Ness−Byer−Gibbs method for the binary system and according to the McDermott−Ellis method for the ternary one. The binary system is well represented by assuming ideal behavior. The binary interaction parameters obtained from this and our previous work are used to predict the vapor−liquid equilibrium for the ternary system using the UNIQUAC, NRTL, and Wilson models. The ternary system is well predicted from binary data.
Vapor-liquid equilibria for the binary systems of methylcyclohexane with 1-propanol, 2-propanol, 1-butanol, and 2-butanol at 101.3 kPa
1997
Isobaric vapor−liquid equilibrium measurements at 101.3 kPa are reported for the binary systems methylcyclohexane + 1-propanol, + 2-propanol, + 1-butanol, and + 2-butanol. The systems show a strong positive deviation from ideality and present a minimum temperature azeotrope. The activity coefficients were found to be thermodynamically consistent by the methods of Van Ness−Byer−Gibbs and Wisniak. The date were correlated with five liquid-phase activity coefficient models (Margules, Van Laar, Wilson, NRTL, and UNIQUAC). According to the average deviations in temperature and in vapor composition the best model for the systems is NRTL.
Isobaric Vapor−Liquid Equilibria for the Binary System 3-Methylpentane + Ethanol and for the Ternary System 2-Methyl-2-propanol + Ethanol + 3-Methylp…
2000
Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibria data were measured for the 3-methylpentane + ethanol binary system and 2-methyl-2-propanol + ethanol + 3-methylpentane ternary system at 101.3 kPa in a temperature range from 329 to 356 K. The data were found to be thermodynamically consistent according to the Van Ness-Byer-Gibbs method for the binary system and according to the McDermott-Ellis method for the ternary one. The binary system shows a minimum boiling azeotrope that boils at 327.9 K and contains 71.4 mol % 3-methylpentane. The binary interaction parameters obtained from this work and literature data are used to predict the vapor-liquid equilibrium for the ternary system using the UNIQUAC, NRTL, a…
