Liquid chromatography ion-trap mass spectrometry LC-MSn has been successfully applied to identify and confirm carbosulfan and seven of its metabolites in oranges after pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) with dichloromethane. Mass spectra of carbosulfan and its metabolites were investigated using multiple stages of mass spectrometry. Although interpretation of the fragmentation pathways, based on mass spectra, enables structural elucidation and identification of these compounds, the proposed fragmentation pathways and ion structures need verification by exact mass measurements. Abstract Two approaches based on sorptive extraction, solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE), in combination with liquid chromatography (LC)–atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (MS) have been assayed for analyzing chlorpyriphos methyl, diazinon, fonofos, phenthoate, phosalone, and pirimiphos ethyl in honey. An overview is given of pesticide residue determination in fruit and vegetables by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Emphasis is placed on the thermospray, particle beam and atmospheric pressure ionization interfaces including advantages and drawbacks and typical detection limits. The capacity of each interface to provide useful data for identification/confirmation of analytes and the possibility of obtaining structural information for the identification of target and non-target compounds is discussed. Finally, sample preparation techniques are dealt with in relation to their influence on further LC-MS determination.

Abstract Ionic liquid “ECOENG™ 110”, a promising electrolyte for electrochemical devices, was investigated by impedance spectroscopy. Metallic electrodes (Pt, Cu, Ag, and Mo) as well as carbon were used for the electrochemical characterization. The dependences of the real and imaginary impedance, polarization resistance and electrochemical capacity of the double layer on the electrode potential were investigated using electrical equivalent circuits of R1(QR2) and R1[Q(R2W)] types.

A vacuum cell for obtaining clean surfaces on liquid low melting point metals

Abstract Clean oxide film-free surface of liquid gallium was obtained in a sealed vacuum cell with a glass lid for observation. The cell was evacuated to high vacuum (10 -4 Pa) before admission of liquid and sealing. The surface contamination was about 2–5% of the free area and did not exhibit noticeable increase during several months of storing and employing the cell. The cell described allows observation of surface flows, capillary phenomena and crystallization processes under different conditions.
Alkyloxy modified pyrene fluorophores with tunable photophysical and crystalline properties

Novel alkyloxy modified 2,7-di-tert-butyl-4,5,9,10-tetra(arylethynyl)pyrenes were prepared through a straightforward Sonogashira coupling approach. Optical properties such as quantum yields and absorption/emission spectra of the fluorophores were investigated by UV/Vis and fluorescence measurements. Aggregation induced excimer formation of the chromophores in polar solvents and in the solid state was proved by the presence of a characteristic bathochromically shifted emission band and a decrease of the emission capability.
