ADDITIVITY FROM MULTIPLE PRIMES IN IDENTIFYING BACKWARD WRITTEN WORDS

Activational theories of memory assume that activation from several sources adds up to an intersecting node. We tested this idea in one experiment where we kept constant the number of primes presented and we manipulated the number of different primes related to the target, the number of presentations of the same prime, or the same target, presented as a prime. We used a task in which the target was always a word, which appeared written backward and had to be identified. We found a strong effect of target repetition and diminished priming in the condition in which the target was repeated. Tracking down phrasal verbs: the case of up and down

Since the frequency of phrasal verbs is register-specific, it is essential for L2 learners to be exposed to the most productive phrasal verbs in their field of study. Thus, English for Police learners should become familiar and practise the most recurrent phrasal verbs in the context of crime and police investigative work. In this study we determine the frequency and meaning extensions of phrasal verbs with the particles up and down in a spoken corpus of English for the Police on the basis of which we also generate teaching materials for L2 trainee police officers. Esta investigación presenta la aportación que la disponibilidad léxica tiene en el marco de la enseñanza de Español como Lengua Extranjera y el ámbito infantil. Para poder desarrollar esta tarea se ha realizado una revisión bibliográfica sistemática que presenta a aquellos trabajos publicados sobre léxico disponible. A partir de los resultados obtenidos se ha observado una baja incidencia de investigaciones sobre ELE con población escolar (hasta 12 años), en comparación con corpus adultos. The collaborative action research project presented analysed the potential of museum education to radically transform the way in which English was taught and learnt in three diverse elementary, middle, and high-school contexts in the province of València (Spain). This article describes the progress and findings of a collaborative action research project on the cultural dimension in primary levels of EFL education in Valencia (Spain). Its aim was to explore whether the EFL subject tended to ignore the students¿ native cultural background, and if so, whether this omission brought negative pedagogical consequences. [ES] Tras el anuncio por parte del Gobierno de la inclusión de una sección oral en el examen de lengua extranjera de la Prueba de Acceso a la Universidad, que estaba prevista para 2012, diferentes posibilidades en cuanto a la informatización de dicha sección se analizaron en un esfuerzo por encontrar una propuesta viable para la evaluación de las destrezas orales y un estudio cualitativo se llevó a cabo con 286 participantes.
