These superresolution microscopy techniques are based on detecting optically isolated, fluorescently tagged anti-histone antibodies, fluorescently labeled DNA precursor analogs, or fluorescent dyes bound to DNA. Presently they suffer from various drawbacks such as low labeling efficiency or interference with DNA structure. Plant cytochrome b 5 reductases (b 5 R) are assumed to be part of an ER-associated redox chain that oxidizes NADH to provide electrons via cytochrome b5 (cyt b 5 ) to ER-associated fatty acyl desaturase and related hydroxylases, as in mammalian cells. Here we report on cDNA cloning of a novel maize b 5 R, NFR II, strongly related to a previously cloned cDNA, NFR I (Bagnaresi et al., 1999, Biochem, J. 338, 499-5051. Maize b 5 R isoforms are produced by a small multi-gene family. The NFR cDNAs were shown to encode active b 5 Rs by heterologous expression in yeast. The identification of a novel Drosophila melanogaster gene, angel, is presented in this study. angel is located on the right arm of the second chromosome at locus 59F5, close to the nested genes l(2)tid, l(2)not, l(2)rot and l(2)dtl. We describe the genetic and molecular localization of angel and present its temporal expression in the wild-type. The deduced amino acid sequence of the ANG39 protein is characterized by a nuclear localization signal. Furthermore, the central part of the predicted ANG39 protein shows significant homology to the C-terminal portion of the yeast transcriptional effector CCR4.

The tumor suppressor gene, lethal(3)malignant blood neoplasm-1+, of Drosophila melanogaster is required for the differentiation of the phagocytic blood-cell type, the plasmatocyte. In the homozygously mutated state it causes the malignant transformation of these blood cells. We present here the cloning, sequencing, structure, and expression of the l(3)mbn-1+ gene during development. The cloned gene was identified by germ-line transformation, generation of revertants, and the detection of the corresponding mRNA in blood cells and other tissues. The ring opening isomerization of [1,2,3]triazolo[1,5-a]pyridines to the corresponding 2-pyridyl derivatives has been studied by means of DFT calculations at the B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p) computational level. The effect of the substitution as well as those of protonation, deprotonation, and lithiation on different positions has been studied. The electronic characteristics of the optimized structures have been analyzed by means of the Atoms In Molecules (AIM), Electron Localization Function (ELF), Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP), and Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) methodologies. © 2008 Elsevier Ltd. The LIGO Scientific and Virgo Collaborations have announced the first detection of gravitational waves from the coalescence of two neutron stars. The merger rate of binary neutron stars estimated from this event suggests that distant, unresolvable binary neutron stars create a significant astrophysical stochastic gravitational-wave background. The binary neutron star background will add to the background from binary black holes, increasing the amplitude of the total astrophysical background relative to previous expectations. Search for Subsolar-Mass Ultracompact Binaries in Advanced LIGO's First Observing Run

We present the first Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo search for ultracompact binary systems with component masses between 0.2 $M_\odot$ - 1.0 $M_\odot$ using data taken between September 12, 2015 and January 19, 2016. We find no viable gravitational wave candidates. Our null result constrains the coalescence rate of monochromatic (delta function) distributions of non-spinning (0.2 $M_\odot$, 0.2 $M_\odot$) ultracompact binaries to be less than $1.0 \times 10^6 \text{Gpc}^{-3} \text{yr}^{-1}$ and the coalescence rate of a similar distribution of (1.0 $M_\odot$, 1.0 $M_\odot$) ultracompact binaries to be less than $1.9 \times 10^4 \text{Gpc}^{-3} \text{yr}^{-1}$ (at 90 percent confidence). By means of the joint use of electron localization function (ELF) and Thom's catastrophe theory, a theoretical analysis of the energy profile for the hetero-Diels-Alder reaction of 4-methoxy-1,2-benzoquinone 1 and methoxyethylene 2 has been carried out. We report on high-pressure angle-dispersive X-ray diffraction data up to 15 GPa andab initiototal-energy calculations up to 242 GPa for KBrO3. No phase transition was found below 15 Pa in contrast to previously reported data. Its experimental bulk modulus in the quasi-hydrostatic regime isB0= 18.8 (9) GPa with a bulk modulus pressure derivativeB′0= 8.2 (4). International audience; The small heat shock proteins (sHSP) are characterized by a chaperone activity to prevent irreversible protein denaturation. This study deals with the sHSP Lo18 induced by multiple stresses in Oenococcus oeni, a lactic acid bacterium. Using in situ immunocytochemistry and cellular fractionation experiments, we demonstrated the association of Lo18 with the membrane in O. oeni cells submitted to heat shock. The same result was obtained after exposure of cells to ethanol or benzyl alcohol, agents known to have an influence on membranes.
