Profiling the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma after long-term HCV eradication in patients with liver cirrhosis in the PITER cohort

2023

Background and aims: Severe liver disease markers assessed before HCV eradication are acknowledged to usually improve after the SVR. We prospectively evaluated, in the PITER cohort, the long-term HCC risk profile based on predictors monitored after HCV eradication by direct-acting antivirals in patients with cirrhosis. Methods: HCC occurrence was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier analysis. Cox regression analysis identified the post-treatment variables associated with de-novo HCC; their predictive power was presented in a nomogram. Results: After the end of therapy (median follow-up:28.47 months), among 2064 SVR patients, 119 (5.8%) developed de-novo HCC. The HCC incidence was 1.90%, 4.21%, 6.47% a…

Long-term results of fascial sling procedure

1993

In a retrospective study 108 patients (average age: 56.5 years) could be evaluated, who were treated with a fascial sling plasty because of pure genuine stress incontinence (n=90) or combined stress/urge incontinence (n=18). 72 patients (66.6%) had recurrent incontinence after previous surgery. The average follow-up was 5 years.

Child personality characteristics and selection into long-term unemployment in Finnish and Swedish longitudinal samples

2003

The main aim of the present study was to test a model of selection into long-term unemployment obtained for a sample of 36-year-old Finns (Kokko, Pulkkinen, & Puustinen, 2000) to see whether it similarly explained long-term unemployment among 26- to 27-year-old Finns and Swedes. The participants were drawn from two ongoing longitudinal studies: the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development (conducted in Finland) and the Individual Development and Adaptation study (conducted in Sweden). At both ages, that is 36 and 26–27, low education was related to long-term unemployment, and explained by personality characteristics in middle childhood, such as low self-contro…

Assessing the effect of transmission constraints on wind power expansion in northeast Brazil

2019

Abstract The rapid growth of the wind industry in Brazil presents new opportunities and challenges for its electricity industry. As new capacity becomes available, more transmission infrastructure is required for security of supply. The Brazilian electricity system has experienced congestion in the northeast region, affecting the coordinated expansion of transmission and new wind power capacity. This paper uses a simulation model for better assessing long-term policy synchrony of the wind industry. The simulation shows that the resulting prices are competitive in the middle to long terms.

Kerguelen, un archipel sous haute surveillance

2016

P3691Intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation in takotsubo syndrome complicated by cardiogenic shock: short- and long-term results from a cohort of 2250…

2019

Abstract Background Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is featured by an acute and reversible left ventricular dysfunction and can be complicated by cardiogenic shock. Intra-aortic balloon pumping (IABP) use in this setting is controversial, and few data are available from large populations. Aim of this study was therefore to evaluate short- and long-term impact of IABP on mortality in TTS complicated by cardiogenic shock. Methods The GEIST registry is a multicenter, international registry on TTS involving 38 centers from Germany, Italy and Spain. Between 2006 and 2017, 2250 consecutive patients with TTS were enrolled. Results Of the 2250 patients, 211 (9%) experienced cardiogenic shock during hospit…

Impact of coronary calcification on outcomes after ABSORB scaffold implantation: insights from the GABI-R registry.

2020

OBJECTIVE To investigate the outcomes after bioresorbable scaffold (BRS) implantation in calcified coronary lesions. In calcified coronary lesions, durable metallic drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation is associated with worse clinical outcomes compared to noncalcified lesions. Although not recommended, BRSs were frequently implanted in calcified lesions in clinical practice. Their outcome is not well investigated. METHODS Between November 2013 and January 2016, 3326 patients were enrolled in the German-Austrian ABSORB ReglstRy (GABI-R). Lesion calcification severity was classified into no (n = 1144), mild (n = 1306), and moderate-to-severe (n = 690) calcification. RESULTS Patients with ca…

Una storia italiana: Giorgio e Isabella

2018

This paper focuses on the story of two dark-skinned Italians written for Giorgio Marincola by Carlo Costa and Lorenzo Teodonio in Razza partigiana and for his sister Isabella by Wu Ming 2 and Antar Mohamed in Timira. Romanzo meticcio. The events of their lives as well as many other aspects of our colonial neocolonial and postcolonial history have re-emerged from the darkness in which they had been hidden only in the last fifteen years thanks to the reopening of the archives allowing to re-discuss many of the aspects that in the pages of History as well as in those of literature had been told in another way. The two works that could be inserted into the current defined as the "new Italian epic" dismantle a series of clichés and prejudices and invite us to reflect on the concept of Italian identity on colonialism and its consequence in the short and long term and particularly on racism.Settore L-FIL-LET/14 - Critica Letteraria E Letterature Comparate

NFAT transcription factors control HIV-1 expression through a binding site downstream of TAR region.

2004

NFAT factors control HIV-1 transcription. We show here that, in addition to binding to two NF-kappaB/NFAT sites within the U3 HIV LTR, NFATc1 and NFATc2 bind to an NFAT site within the LTR's U5 region. Mutations in this site which abolish NFAT binding reduce the ability of NFATs to transactivate LTR-mediated transcription. Mutations in all three NFAT sites strongly interfered with LTR induction, but affected moderately the stimulatory effect of Tat.

Structural and evolutionary analysis of the copia-like elements in the Arabidopsis thaliana genome.

2001

The analysis of 460 kb of genomic sequence of Arabidopsis thaliana chromosome III allowed us to identify two new transposable elements named AtC1 and AtC2. AtC1 shows identical long terminal repeats (LTRs) and all the structural features characteristic of the copia-like active elements. AtC2 is also a full copia-like element, but a putative stop codon in the open reading frame (ORF) would produce a truncated protein. In order to identify the copia-like fraction of the A. thaliana genome, a careful computer-based analysis of the available sequences (which correspond to 92% of the genome) was performed. Approximately 300 nonredundant copia-like sequences homologous to AtC1 and AtC2 were detec…
