Groto in Quevedo's love poetry: Three mythological poems

2013

Znaczenie rodziny w życiu skazanych poszkodowanych - opinie, oceny i potrzeby

2020

The questions addressed in the present paper concern the family relations of persons deprived of freedom who – remaining in the prison environment – have been degraded, that is convicts occupying the lowest rung in the informal penitentiary system, so-called victimized prisoners. They make a specific community, rejected and humiliated by other inmates. The necessity to ensure safety to them and help them protect their personal characteristics generates difficulties in activities of rehabilitative character. The aim of the research was to show the family relations of people degraded in the prison environment – a subject that has not been studied to date. The method of diagnostic survey was u…

Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof (2007): Subverting Gender through Genre or Vice Versa?

2010

International audience; The article examines how Death Proof (Tarantino, 2007) subverts both gender and genre by mixing several genres (the slasher, the car movie, the buddy movie) generally considered to be male, either at the diegetic level (e.g. the main characters) or at the level of reception (i.e. the target audience). The film's play on gender and genre, which is clearly based on the idea that film genres are gendered, is, then, enabled by the very discursivity of these norms. The article also shows how Tarantino took into account feminist film theory, namely Carol Clover and Laura Mulvey, when making Death Proof, suggesting that film genre, for Tarantino, is not so much a matter of …

Effects of ICT Connectedness, Permeability, Flexibility, and Negative Spillovers on Burnout and Job and Family Satisfaction

2011

This study investigates the effects of information and communication technologies (ICTs), permeability, flexibility, and spillovers of work into home and home into work on job burnout and job and family satisfaction. Results from a random sample of 612 office workers show that individuals who reported being satisfied with their jobs tended to feel that the Internet could help them accomplish work-related tasks, that traditional media could help them relax after work, and had a highly permeable boundary between their home domain and a highly flexible work environment. On the other hand, people who experienced low job satisfaction faced high work spillovers into home life and high burnout. Th…

Genetic Diversity of White Clover (Trifolium Repens L.) from the Urban Area of Rīga Baltā Āboliņa (Trifolium Repens L.) Ģenētiskā Daudzveidība Rīgas …

2015

COVID-19 Pandemic: New Prevention and Protection Measures

2022

As of the end of February 2021, more than 420,000,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported worldwide, with 5,856,224 deaths. Transmission of the different genetically engineered variants of SARS-CoV-2, which have been isolated since the beginning of the pandemic, occurs from one infected person to another by the same means: the airborne route, indirect contact, and occasionally the fecal–oral route. Infection is asymptomatic or may present with flulike symptoms such as fever, cough, and mild to moderate and severe respiratory distress, requiring hospitalization and assisted ventilation support. To control the spread of COVID-19, the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for …

Un crime et son triple châtiment : "Naïs Micoulin" d'Émile Zola

2016

In this short story written by Zola in 1877, Nais Micoulin, a poor but pretty girl whose parents lease a Mediterranean property, becomes the lover of her landlord’s son, Frederic. She hates her severe father who intends to kill Frederic. Nais makes Micoulin perish in an accident she provokes, but happiness does not come, and the parricide is triply punished: not only she loses her lover and her beauty, but also she has to marry an ugly and disabled man. Much shorter than Zola’s novels but extremely rich in significance, the text proves the writer’s mastery o f regarding and describing the naturę and mankind.

Il dilemma tra amore e onore. Reciprocità e modelli etici in Catullo 76 e in Properzio (Elegie 2,23; 2,24A-B-C-)

2018

Poem 76 is probably the most significant text, among Catullan compositions, for investigating the issues of reciprocity-in-love and honour, which dispose the poet’s world. This paper aims to focus the debate between "benefacta" and "gratia", in comparison with some Propertian elegies that seem to propose very different solutions to the same ethical dispute, whether honour is better than love, or not.

Postcards and Supasigns : Extending Integrationist Theory Through the Creation of Interactive Digital Artworks

2007

Integrationism is a post-structuralist theory of language and communication. The theory has been applied to a groundbreaking analysis of writing as a form of communication where writing is teased apart from speech and realigned with spatial configurations in general. Although it has many practical applications, this view can be extremely difficult to comprehend when expressed as a very specific form of writing, that is, as written words on paper. A solution to this problem is offered by the creative interaction design of two digital artworks, Postcard From Tunis and Postcards From Writing. The works are interactive multimedia pieces that creatively express the integrationist theory of writi…
