Appropriate technology in a Solovian nonlinear growth model

We propose a Solovian growth model with a convex-concave production function and international technological spillovers. We test the empirical implications of the model, analysing the effects of the productivity slowdown that followed the oil shocks of the 1970s. We argue that this slowdown, altering the world income distribution, affected the pattern of international technological spillovers, taking the poorest countries further away from the technological leaders, and therefore unable to exploit their technologies. The result is the emergence of a poverty trap for low-income countries.

Carmina Burana (CB) 119 (Dulce solum natalis patrie) and 120 (Rumor letalis) are two medieval latin love poems of XIIth-XIIIth century which both show Catullan flavour, themes and suggestions. In this paper, after a short introduction about the very exiguous knowledge of Catull’s poems between VIth and XIIIth century, I try to give a strict analysis of CB 119 and 120, at the light of Catullan themes and suggestions which occur in these poems.

The subject matter of this article will be an intertextual analysis of the pivotal ball scenes in the novels Le Ravissement de Lol V. Stein by Marguerite Duras and La Princesse de Clèves by Madame de La Fayette. Despite the obvious differences in the poetics, creative visions, and styles of both writers, the reading of a 20th century literary work through the prism of the classic text exposes the stereotypes of love and a femme fatale also present in the novel by Duras. Wstęp: Seks stanowi manifestację relacji miłosnej pozwalającą na osiągnięcie pełni miłości. Seks osób starszych bywa jednak często pomijany lub niedoceniany w dyskusjach nad ludzką seksualnością. Aktywność seksualna w wieku senioralnym jest formą wyrażania uczuć i bliskości, ale również wzajemnej lojalności i zaufania. Ma również właściwości prozdrowotne. Badacze twierdzą, że aż 67% osób starszych jest zadowolonych ze swojej aktywności seksualnej. Materiały i metody: W badaniu wzięły udział 83 osoby w wieku 61–81 lat, 33 mężczyzn oraz 55 kobiet. Growth and convergence in Africa: The impact of spatial effects

The aim of this paper is to study the impact of spatial effects on convergence process in Africa over the period 1975-2000. Taking into account these effects through the methodology of Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA) and spatial econometrics, we focus on the geographical dimension of economic convergence of African countries. This allows us to deal with spatial autocorrelation which is a consequence of econometric interdependences due to geographic spillovers. On international spillovers

Abstract This study investigates the role of international spillovers in generating productivity gains for a panel of 24 OECD countries during the period between 1971 and 2004. We use recent techniques developed in a common factor framework to characterize the global interdependence implied by international spillovers and the diffusion mechanisms involved. Consistently with some recent studies in this field, the evidence suggests that there are substantial cross-country spillovers mainly related to R&D and human capital variables, which contribute significantly to productivity.
