Ionically Assisted Charge Injection in Hybrid Organic−Inorganic Light-Emitting Diodes
2010
We have developed hybrid organic−inorganic light-emitting diodes (HyLEDs) featuring a buffer layer of a conjugated polyelectrolyte (CPE) sandwiched between a light emitting polymer (LEP) film and a ZnO electron injection layer. Efficacies exceeding 5 cd/A and the possibility of employing various LEPs are demonstrated. These improvements, compared to HyLEDs without any interlayer, are attributed to the redistribution of ions in the CPE film, causing hole accumulation at the CPE/LEP interfaces and enhanced electron injection from the ZnO into the electroluminescent polymer. The intrinsic air-stability of the electrodes used in HyLEDs, together with the solution processability of the ZnO/CPE/L…
Photoluminescence waveguiding in CdSe and CdTe QDs–PMMA nanocomposite films
2011
In this paper, active planar waveguides based on the incorporation of CdSe and CdTe nanocrystal quantum dots in a polymer matrix are demonstrated. In the case of doping the polymer with both types of quantum dots, the nanocomposite film guides both emitted colors, green (550 nm, CdTe) and orange (600 nm, CdSe). The optical pumping laser can be coupled not only with a standard end-fire coupling system, but also directing the beam to the surface of the sample, indicating a good absorption cross-section and waveguide properties. To achieve these results, a study of the nanocomposite optical properties as a function of the nanocrystal concentration is presented and the optimum conditions are fo…
Photon yields and decay times of cross luminescence in ionic crystals
1992
The authors report on the scintillation properties of the ternary inorganic crystals KMgF/sub 3/, KYF/sub 4/:Rb, K/sub 2/YF/sub 5/, KLuF/sub 4/, RbMgF/sub 3/, KZnF/sub 3/, BaTm/sub 2/F/sub 8/, LiYF/sub 4/:Nd, and BaF/sub 2/:Rb. The scintillation light output of these crystals was estimated from the X-ray-induced emission spectra. Optical absorption spectra and decay time spectra were also measured and are presented. The first four crystals produced cross-luminescence (CL) with a decay time of about 1.5 ns. CL was not observed for the other crystals. >
1,4-Bis(arylthio)but-2-enes as Assembling Ligands for (Cu2X2)n (X = I, Br; n = 1, 2) Coordination Polymers: Aryl Substitution, Olefin Configuration, …
2016
CuI reacts with E-PhS(CH2CH═CHCH2)SPh, L1, to afford the coordination polymer (CP) [Cu2I2{μ-E-PhS(CH2CH═CHCH2)SPh}2]n (1a). The unprecedented square-grid network of 1 is built upon alternating two-dimensional (2D) layers with an ABAB sequence and contains rhomboid Cu2(μ2-I)2 clusters as secondary building units (SBUs). Notably, layer A, interconnected by bridging L1 ligands, contains exclusively dinuclear units with short Cu···Cu separations [2.6485(7) A; 115 K]. In contrast, layer B exhibits Cu···Cu distances of 2.8133(8) A. The same network is observed when CuBr reacts with L1. In the 2D network of [Cu2Br2{μ-E-PhS(CH2CH═CHCH2)SPh}2]n (1b), isotype to 1a, one square-grid-type layer contain…
Solid-state luminescence of Au-Cu-alkynyl complexes induced by metallophilicity-driven aggregation.
2012
A new series of homoleptic alkynyl complexes, [{Au2Cu2(C2R)4}n] (R=C3H7O (1), C6H11O (2), C9H19O (3), C13H11O (4)), were obtained from Au(SC4H8)Cl, Cu(NCMe)4PF6, and the corresponding alkyne in the presence of a base (NEt3). Complexes 1-4 aggregate upon crystallization into polymeric chains through extensive metallophilic interactions. The cluster that contains fluorenolyl functionalities, C13H9O (5), crystallizes in its molecular form as a disolvate, [Au2Cu2(C2C13H9O)4]·2THF. The substitution of weakly bound THF molecules with pyridine molecules leads to the complex [Au2Cu2(C2C13H9O)4]·2py (6), thus giving two polymorphs in the solid state. Such structural diversity is established through …
Universal Transients in Polymer and Ionic Transition Metal Complex Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cells
2012
Two types of light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) are commonly distinguished, the polymer-based LEC (p-LEC) and the ionic transition metal complex-based LEC (iTMC-LEC). Apart from marked differences in the active layer constituents, these LEC types typically show operational time scales that can differ by many orders of magnitude at room temperature. Here, we demonstrate that despite these differences p-LECs and iTMC-LECs show current, light output, and efficacy transients that follow a universal shape. Moreover, we conclude that the turn-on time of both LEC types is dominated by the ion conductivity because the turn-on time exhibits the same activation energy as the ion conductivity…
Photoluminescence ZnO nanorod biosensors for medical and food safety applications
2017
Photoluminescence (PL) ZnO nanorods (NR) are prospect materials for biosensor applications. They can be deposited on solid state substrates and/or dispersed in liquid media. ZnO NRs demonstrate strong UV emission (3.28–3.3 eV), which depends on surface charge, formed by adsorbed molecules. In the present work we report on ZnO NRs, deposited on glass slides, used as biosensor templates for detection food pathogens. Change of ZnO PL after interaction with biomolecules was recorded. Dependence of PL intensity vs concentration of biomolecules was obtained. In the second part, ZnO nanorods were used as PL biomarkers. A suspension of ZnO NRs, conjugated with SSEA-4 antibodies (aSSEA-4) in PBS buf…
Facile laser-assisted synthesis of inorganic nanoparticles covered by a carbon shell with tunable luminescence
2015
We report a one-step strategy at ambient conditions for the production of hybrid inorganic core–carbon shell nanoparticles by means of pulsed laser ablation of inorganic targets (LiNbO3, Au, and Si) in hydrocarbon liquids such as toluene and chloroform. The core of these spherical nanoparticles consists of the target material, whereas the shells are carbon structures (multilayer graphite-type carbon and amorphous carbon), which are formed due to the thermal decomposition of the organic liquid in contact with hot inorganic nanoparticles ejected from the bulk target. These carbon shells emit photoluminescence in the blue-green spectral region and the obtained luminescence, in which the lumine…
Multi-photon imaging of amine-functionalized silica nanoparticles.
2012
A convenient and simple strategy for preparing water soluble, photoluminescent functionalized silica nanoparticles (M-dots) in the absence of fluorophores or metal doping is demonstrated. These M-dots can be used for bioimaging using one and two-photon microscopy. Because of their high photostability, low toxicity and high biocompatibility compared with Lumidot™ CdSe/ZnS quantum dots, functionalized silica particles are superior alternatives for current bioimaging platforms. Moreover, the presence of a free amine group at the surface of the M-dots allows biomolecule conjugation (e.g. with antibodies, proteins) in a single step for converting these photoluminescent SiO(2) nanoparticles into …

2015
Abstract Small organic molecules with incorporated 4 H -pyran-4-ylidene (pyranylidene) fragment as the π-conjugation system which bonds the electron acceptor fragment (A) with electron donor part (D) in the molecule – also well known as derivatives of 4-(dicyano-methylene)-2-methyl-6-[p-(dimethylamino)styryl]-4H-pyran ( DCM ) laser dye-have attracted considerable attention of scientists as potential new generation materials for organic photonics and molecular electronics due to their low-cost fabrication possibility, flexibility and low-weight. Six glassy derivatives of 4 H -pyran-4-ylidene (pyranylidene) with attached bulky 2-(trityloxy)ethyl and tert -butyl groups are described in this re…
