Recursive and bargaining values

Abstract We introduce two families of values for TU-games: the recursive and bargaining values. Bargaining values are obtained as the equilibrium payoffs of the symmetric non-cooperative bargaining game proposed by Hart and Mas-Colell (1996). We show that bargaining values have a recursive structure in their definition, and we call this property recursiveness. All efficient, linear, and symmetric values that satisfy recursiveness are called recursive values. We generalize the notions of potential, and balanced contributions property, to characterize the family of recursive values. Tras un largo periodo de intensa expansión territorial que culminó en 2008, la reestructuración del sector bancario español ha llevado a que el número de sucursales haya pasado de 45.000 a poco más de 28.000 en menos de una década. Las implicaciones de esta tendencia son notables, pues el acceso a la oficina física sigue siendo clave en comunidades remotas y/o desfavorecidas, además de existir un impacto todavía no medido en términos de banca relacional. One swallow does not make a summer: episodes and persistence in high growth

This paper analyzes firms’ episodes (spells) of high growth (HG) using a sample of Spanish manufacturing firms observed over two decades. The use of duration models allows us to investigate the following: (i) the probability of experiencing HG episodes, (ii) persistence in HG, and (iii) the determinants of the transitions in and out of the HG state and whether their impact varies over the business cycle. We find that about half of the firms experience at least one HG episode, but they seldom experience more than one. Moreover, high-growth status is rarely repeated due to high first-year selection. The current paper focuses on the Spanish electoral rules governing political competition for the central “Congreso de los Diputados”. It is well-documented that the system as a whole has traditionally favoured one or the other of the two main political parties (PP and PSOE) at the expense of proportionality and the remaining political parties. This paper focuses on some key Spanish electoral rules and investigates how much the observed biases could be altered by introducing some alternative rules taken from the Swedish electoral system, ceteris paribus. Cancelling out systematic uncertainties

We present a method to minimize, or even cancel out, the nuisance parameters affecting a measurement. Our approach is general and can be applied to any experiment or observation. We compare it with the bayesian technique used to deal with nuisance parameters: marginalization, and show how the method compares and improves by avoiding biases. We illustrate the method with several examples taken from the astrophysics and cosmology world: baryonic acoustic oscillations, cosmic clocks, Supernova Type Ia luminosity distance, neutrino oscillations and dark matter detection. Static output-feedback control under information structure constraints

An important challenge in the static output-feedback control context is to provide an isolated gain matrix possessing a zero-nonzero structure, mainly in problems presenting information structure constraints. Although some previous works have contributed some relevant results to this issue, a fully satisfactory solution has not yet been achieved up to now. In this note, by using a Linear Matrix Inequality approach and based on previous results given in the literature, we present an e cient methodology which permits to obtain an isolated static output-feedback gain matrix having, simultaneously, a zero-nonzero structure imposed a priori. En els últims anys la Psicologia està patint internament i externa una crisi important de credibilitat, a la qual tampoc han estat alienes altres ciències, com ara la Medicina o la Biologia. Diversos projectes de ciència de col·laboració suggereixen que una gran part dels resultats de la investigació són difícils de reproduir. Això ve acompanyat d’un conjunt de simulacions i anàlisis quantitatives que situen la quantitat de falsos positius per damunt del 50% del total de dades publicades en la literatura psicològica actual.
