After having been neglected for some time, mountain environments have now become an important research area for the study of anthropogenic impact on the environment and the interactions of societies with their environments. Modern excavations of settlement sites from the end of the First Iron Age and the beginning of the second, together with a re-examination of those undertaken in the past, permit us to better approach some material that has traditionally been neglected as a result of its unpromising aspect: notably some of the iron material. This article will attempt to show the diversity of this material, and some new methods permitting its quantification. The aim is to deepen our understanding of the role and status of this metal in Hallstatt society by a consideration of the material from occupation sites as opposed to funerary monuments.

Die Nekropole von Lailly Au-delà de l’Eau (Departement Yonne) war 1927 entdeckt worden und wurde1934, 1936 und 1937 und zum letzten Mal 2012 teilweise ausgegraben. Die Untersuchung der in den Depots der Museen von Senswiederentdeckten Grabbeigaben und die systematische Aufarbeitung der Grabungsarchive der Société archéologique de Sens habenes ermöglicht, einen Teil der geschlossenen Fundkontexte zu rekonstruieren und eine Belegungschronologie dieser kleinen Nekropolevorzuschlagen, deren großes wissenschaftliches Potenzial noch in situ erforscht werden muss. International audience; A 15 km à l'Est de Niamey (Sud-Ouest du Niger), une prospection pédestre exhaustive a permis de dénombrer plus de 4000 bas-fourneaux sur un bassin versant de 24 km². Ils sont identifiables par la présence de scories correspondant aux résidus de réduction du fer. Ce grand nombre de structures de réduction est lié au fonctionnement à usage unique des bas-fourneaux, qui est peu étudié dans la région ouest africaine. Les premières études de répartition spatiale montrent que l'implantation de ces bas-fourneaux est principalement soumise à la géomorphologie. This report presents the results of a second series of excavations carried out between the oppidum of Boviolles and the ancient city of Nasium. It affects an occupation dated between La Tène D2 and the beginning of the augustean period, characterized by a causeway linking the two entities, a level delivering traces of artisanal activities, wells and a cooking kiln. This occupation is also characterized by the presence of the Roman army embodied in many militaria. This presence is central to the issue of the development of the ancient settlement of Nasium.
