Phenotypic variation results from the balance between sources of variation and counteracting regulatory mechanisms. Canalization and developmental stability are two such mechanisms, acting at two different levels of regulation. The issue of whether or not they act concurrently as a common developmental buffering capacity has been subject to debate. Abstract The study of past sea levels relies largely on the interpretation of sea-level indicators. Palaeo tidal notches are considered as one of the most precise sea-level indicators as their formation is closely tied to the local tidal range. We present geometric measurements of modern and palaeo (Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 5e) tidal notches on Bonaire (southern Caribbean Sea) and results from two tidal simulations, using the present-day bathymetry and a palaeo-bathymetry. AbstractIn this study, polymorphism in behaviour, morphology, and stable isotope signatures of burbot from Lake Southern Konnevesi, Finland, Europe, was examined. First, local knowledge was collected on exceptional polymorphism of the spawning behaviour and morphology of burbot. These phenomena were then studied based on catch samples. Interviews and catch sample analyses suggested two morphs of burbot: one morph spawning in late February in the littoral zone and other in late March, in deep profundal, depths of about 30 m. Fish caught from the profundal zone had higher average proportional somatic body weights and wider heads than those caught from the littoral spawning sites in February. …

La citología exfoliativa es una técnica sencilla, no agresiva y bien aceptada por los pacientes, por lo que podría ser útil en el diagnóstico precoz del cáncer oral. Sin embargo, su utilización como método diagnóstico de atipias epiteliales y especialmente del carcinoma oral de células escamosas ha perdido importancia, sobre todo debido a su baja sensibilidad representada por el elevado número de resultados falsos negativos. Izmaiņas augsta un vidēja riska gēnos gados jauniem melanomas pacientiem

Melanoma ir ļaundabīgs ādas audzējs, kas attīstās vides un gēnu mijiedarbības rezultātā. Bakalaura darba mērķis bija izvērtēt izmaiņas augsta un vidēja riska gēnos melanomas pacientiem ar vairākiem primāriem audzējiem un gados jauniem (līdz 40 gadu vecumam) melanomas pacientiem Latvijā. Analīzē tika iekļauti seši pacienti ar vairākām primārām melanomām un 67 gados jauni melanomas pacienti. Tika izanalizēti pieci augsta (CDKN2A, CDK4, BAP1, POT1, TERT) un divi vidēja (MITF, MC1R) melanomas riska gēni. Atrastas trīs dažādas izmaiņas POT1 gēnā, no kurām viena ir jauna līdz šim neaprakstīta izmaiņa, viens rets MITF, divi CDKN2A un 8 dažādi MC1R gēnu polimorfismi. Izmaiņas BAP1, POT1 un CDK4 gēn…
