Numerical studies of the melting process in the induction furnace with cold crucible
2008
PurposeAims to present recent activities in numerical modeling of cold crucible melting process.Design/methodology/approach3D numerical analysis was used for electromagnetic problem and 3D large eddy simulation (LES) method was applied for fluid flow modeling.FindingsThe comparative modeling shows, that higher H/D ratio of the melt is more efficient when total power consumption is considered, but this advantage is held back by higher heat losses through the crucible walls. Also, calculations reveal that lower frequencies, which are energetically less effective, provide better mixing of the melt.Originality/value3D electromagnetic model, which allows to take into account non‐symmetrical dist…
The measurement programme at the neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF at CERN
2016
Neutron-induced reaction cross sections are important for a wide variety of research fields ranging from the study of nuclear level densities, nucleosynthesis to applications of nuclear technology like design, and criticality and safety assessment of existing and future nuclear reactors, radiation dosimetry, medical applications, nuclear waste transmutation, accelerator-driven systems and fuel cycle investigations. Simulations and calculations of nuclear technology applications largely rely on evaluated nuclear data libraries. The evaluations in these libraries are based both on experimental data and theoretical models. CERN’s neutron time-of-flight facility n TOF has produced a considerabl…
Structural Health Monitoring of Cracked Beam by the Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element Method
2012
In this paper a 2D boundary element model is used to characterize the transient response of a piezoelectric based structural health monitoring system for cracked beam. The BE model is written for piezoelectric non-homogeneous problem employing generalized displacements. The dual reciprocity method is used to write the mass matrix in terms of boundary parameters only. The multidomain boundary element technique is implemented to model non-homogeneous and cracked configuration, unilateral interface conditions are also considered to prevent the physical inconsistence of the overlapping between interface nodes belonging to the crack surfaces. To assess the reliability and the effectiveness of th…
On the dynamic behavior of piezoelectric active repair by the boundary element method
2011
The dynamic behavior of piezoelectric active repair bonded on cracked structures is analyzed in this article. The boundary element code used to perform the simulations is implemented in the framework of piezoelectricity in order to model the coupling between the elastic and the electric fields, which represents the most important feature of piezoelectric media. The fracture mechanics problem, i.e. the crack, as well as the bonding layer between the host structure and the active patch is modeled by means of the multidomain technique provided with an interface spring model. More particularly, the spring interface model allows considering the bonding layer as a zero-thickness elastic ply char…
Characterisation of electric alloys for electric drives
1996
Knowledge of the magnetic and loss charactenstics of electric alloys is necessary for the computation and design of electrical machines. Over a long period of time, and more recently, many devices have been proposed for this characterisation. They test ferromagnetic sheets under conditions of unidirectional magnetic flux density. Other methods are derived from some of these devices, but they use conditions of rotating flux density. In the paper the authors show with the use of numerical computation that, in all these testing systems, the distribution of the magnetic flux density through the thickness of the sheet is uniform and does not take into account the edge effect which exists in rota…
Isospin mixing and in-beam study of non-yrast states in Co-56
2018

Slow relaxation of the magnetization in Oximato-bridged heterobimetallic Copper(II)-Manganese(III) chains
2011
The use of the oximato-containing copper(II) complexes, [Cu(Hdeg)2] (H2deg = diethylglyoxime), [Cu(Hmeg)2] (H2meg = methylethylglyoxime) and [Cu(Hdmg)2] (H2dmg = dimethylglyoxime), as ligands toward manganese(II) acetate in methanol afforded the heterobimetallic compounds of formula [MnCu(deg)2(CH3COO)(H2O)2] (1), [MnCu(meg)2(CH3COO)(H2O)2] (2) and [MnCu(dmg)2(CH3COO)(H2O)2] (3) where the starting manganese(II) ion was oxidized to manganese(III) by air. In the lack of single crystals suitable for X-ray diffraction analysis, X-ray absorption techniques (EXAFS and XANES) at 40 K were used for the structural characterization of 1-3. The analysis of the X-ray absorption data reveals that 1-3 ar…
Tuning up the Tc in Mn(II)Cu(II) bimetallic planes and design of molecular-based magnets
1998
Abstract A family of related compounds of general formula (PPh4)2Mn2[Cu((L)]3nH2O, where PPh4+ is the tetraphenylphosphonium cation and L stands for ortho-phenylenebis(oxamate) (opba, 1), ortho-phenylene (N′-methyloxamidate) (oxamate) (Meopba, 2) and ortho-phenylenebis (N′-methyloxamidate) (Me2opba, 3), have been synthesized. The X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) and extended X-ray Within absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectra at both Mn and Cu K-edges for all three compounds, as well as their powder X-ray patterns, are consistent with a layered structure built up of parallel Mn11Cu11 two-dimensional honeycomb networks separated by PPh4+ cations. Within the antonic metallic la…
Cross-sublattice Spin Pumping and Magnon Level Attraction in van der Waals Antiferromagnets
2020
We theoretically study spin pumping from a layered van der Waals antiferromagnet in its canted ground state into an adjacent normal metal. We find that the resulting dc spin pumping current bears contributions along all spin directions. Our analysis allows for detecting intra- and cross-sublattice spin-mixing conductances via measuring the two in-plane spin current components. We further show that sublattice symmetry-breaking Gilbert damping can be realized via interface engineering and induces a dissipative coupling between the optical and acoustic magnon modes. This realizes magnon level attraction and exceptional points in the system. Furthermore, the dissipative coupling and cross-subla…
