Malattie fungine più diffuse sui frumenti biologici
2016
Fumo, alcol e salute orale
2013
Obiettivi.

G-protein-coupled receptor kinase 5 polymorphism and Takotsubo cardiomyopathy.
2015
BACKGROUND: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) is an increasingly reported clinical syndrome that mimics acute myocardial infarction without obstructive coronary artery disease and is characterized by transient systolic dysfunction of the apical and/or mid-segments of the left ventricle. The syndrome mainly occurs in postmenopausal women with high adrenergic state conditions. Nowadays, the pathophysiology of TTC is not yet known and the possibility of a genetic predisposition is controversial. AIMS: The purpose of this study was to assess the genetic susceptibility to TTC through analysis of the L41Q polymorphism of the G-protein-coupled receptor kinase 5 (GRK5). METHODS AND RESULTS: In a cohor…
TTAS a New Stilbene Derivative that Induces Apoptosis in Leishmania Infantum
2012
Leishmania parasites are able to undergo apoptosis (programmed cell death), similarly to mammalian cells. Recently it was demonstrated in vitro the anti-leishmanial effect of some natural and synthetic stilbenoids including resveratrol and piceatannol. In this study we evaluated the Leishmanicidal activity of a pool of stilbene derivatives which had previously shown high apoptotic efficacy against neoplastic cells. All the compounds tested were capable to decrease the parasite viability in a dose-dependent manner. Trans-stilbenes proved to be markedly more effective than cis-isomers. This was different from that observed in tumor cells in which cis-stilbenes were more potent cytotoxic agent…

Myocardial contrast echocardiography in biopsy-proven primary cardiac amyloidosis.
2008
Abstract Cardiac vasculature is affected in 88-90% of patients with primary cardiac amyloidosis (CA). Myocardial contrast echocardiography (MCE) relies on the ultrasound detection of microbubble contrast agents that are solely confined to the intravascular space, and are therefore useful in the evaluation of flow in the microvasculature. This is the first case report describing the use of MCE during vasodilator stress to evaluate coronary flow reserve in a patient with biopsy-proven primary CA and angiographically normal coronaries. Qualitative MCE demonstrated delayed replenishment of microbubbles during peak stress; quantitative analysis was consistent with a reduction in total myocardial…
Role of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Detection of Cardiac Amyloidosis
2010
Objectives Our aim was to evaluate the role and mechanism of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) in identifying cardiac amyloidosis (CA) and to investigate associations between LGE and clinical, morphologic, functional, and biochemical features. Background CA can be challenging to diagnose by echocardiography. Recent studies have demonstrated an emerging role for LGE-CMR. Methods LGE-CMR was performed in 120 patients with amyloidosis. Cardiac histology was available in 35 patients. The remaining 85 patients were divided into those with and without echocardiographic evidence of CA. Results Of the 35 patients with histologically verified CA, abnormal LGE was pre…
Pre-Emptive Treatment with Cidofovir for Cytomegalovirus Antigenemia in Autologous Bone Marrow Recipient and CLL Patients on Therapy with Alemtuzumab.
2006
Abstract Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in patients who have undergone severe immunosuppressive therapy. Ganciclovir continues to be the first choice for pre-emptive therapy, but it needs multiple intravenous daily administration for three weeks and may cause myelosuppression. Cidofovir is a non myelotoxic nucleotide analogue effective against CMV; its favourable pharmacokinetic profile allows a once-a-week dosing. We reviewed a database on 110 consecutive Autologous Stem Cell Transplant (ASCT) and that of 15 Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) patients treated with alemtuzumab. All patients were virologically monitored by quantification of pp65 antige…
