The chapter begins with a discussion of the theory of Scandinavian New Institutionalism in the context of higher education, explaining how ideologies spread across nations and fields through adoption and adaptation. Tiivistelmä – Abstract Suomen peruskoulujärjestelmä sai alkunsa vuonna 1970 ja samana vuonna julkaistiin ensimmäinen peruskoulun opetussuunnitelma. Seuraavat opetussuunnitelmauudistukset toteutettiin vuosina 1985, 1994 ja 2004. Parhaillaan Suomessa kehitetään uutta peruskoulun opetussuunnitelmaa, joka on tarkoitus ottaa käyttöön vuonna 2016. Tässä tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin johtajuuden ja opetussuunnitelman välistä suhdetta. Globalization and leadership and management: a comparative analysis of primary schools in England and Finland

This article analyses the impact of processes of globalization on both policy and practice in relation to primary school leadership and management in England and Finland. Data are drawn from case study research carried out from 1994–1996 in six schools in Finland and six schools in England and a follow‐up study on teacher professionalism (2001–2002) that involved 37 of the original participants being re‐interviewed. Taking popular protest as a common reaction to changes in hospital services as its point of departure, this paper explores how a social movement has taken on the issue of the hospital as an institution. In the wake of the transformation of Norwegian public hospitals into health enterprises (trusts), this paper explores community resistance to the proposals and plans of decision-makers to restructure hospitals. This paper examines how a family business system serves as the ideological arena of three cultural forces—entrepreneurialism, managerialism, and paternalism—that are, to a great extent, contesting ideologies based on different rationalities, or schools of thought. The emergence of ‘new managerialism’ in academic institutions and professions has given rise to tensions between one’s professional self and work context. Such tensions often originate from a misalignment between institutional and personal values.
