AbstractPosttranscriptional gene silencing (PTGS) in plants results from the degradation of mRNAs and shows phenomenological similarities with quelling in fungi and RNAi in animals. Here, we report the isolation of sgs2 and sgs3 Arabidopsis mutants impaired in PTGS. We establish a mechanistic link between PTGS, quelling, and RNAi since the Arabidopsis SGS2 protein is similar to an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase like N. crassa QDE-1, controlling quelling, and C. elegans EGO-1, controlling RNAi. In contrast, SGS3 shows no significant similarity with any known or putative protein, thus defining a specific step of PTGS in plants. Quality Assessment of Reconstruction and Relighting from RTI Images: Application to Manufactured Surfaces

In this paper, we propose to evaluate the quality of the reconstruction and relighting from images acquired by a Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) device. Three relighting models, namely the PTM, HSH and DMD, are evaluated using PSNR and SSIM. A visual assessment of how the reconstructed surfaces are perceived is also carried out through a sensory experiment. This study allows to estimate the relevance of these models to reproduce the appearance of the manufactured surfaces. It also shows that DMD reproduces the most accurate reconstruction/relighting to an acquired measurement and that a higher sampling density don't mean necessarily a higher perceptual quality.

Cutaneous wound healing is a complex process that aims to re-establish the original structure of the skin and its functions. Among other disorders, peripheral neuropathies are known to severely impair wound healing capabilities of the skin, revealing the importance of skin innervation for proper repair. Here, we report that peripheral glia are crucially involved in this process. Uncontrollable, compared with controllable, painful stimulation can lead to increased pain perception and activation in pain-processing brain regions, but it is currently unknown which brain areas mediate this effect. When pain is controllable, the lateral prefrontal cortex (PFC) seems to inhibit pain processing, although it is unclear how this is achieved.
