Nutritional Recovery Centers: 1984-2011
2020
Continuous and Intermittent Alcohol Free-Choice from Pre-gestational Time to Lactation: Focus on Drinking Trajectories and Maternal Behavior
2016
Background: Alcohol consumption during pregnancy and lactation induces detrimental consequences, that are not limited to the direct in utero effects of the drug on fetuses, but extend to maternal care. However, the occurrence and severity of alcohol toxicity are related to the drinking pattern and the time of exposure. The present study investigated in female rats long-term alcohol drinking trajectories, by a continuous and intermittent free-choice paradigm, during pre-gestational time, pregnancy, and lactation; moreover, the consequences of long-term alcohol consumption on the response to natural reward and maternal behavior were evaluated. Methods: Virgin female rats were exposed to home-…
Age-related changes in cholesterol metabolism in macrosomic offspring of rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes.
2001
The aim of this study was to determine the impact of diabetic macrosomia on cholesterol and lipoprotein metabolism. Age-related changes in the activities of serum LCAT, hepatic HMG-CoA reductase, cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase, and ACAT, the major enzymes involved in cholesterol metabolism, were determined in macrosomic offspring of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Hepatic, serum, and lipoprotein cholesterol contents were also examined. Mild hyperglycemia in pregnant rats was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (40 mg/kg body weight) on day 5 of gestation. Control pregnant rats were injected with citrate buffer. At birth, macrosomic pups had higher serum, LDL-HDL1, and H…
987 Emipediology and Morbidity of Late Preterm Neonates in Correlation with Maternal Risk Factors in Hessen, Germany
2012
Short and long term morbidity in late preterm neonates (LP) and their correlation to maternal risk factors are relevant as shown in multiple studies in North America and European countries. Epidemiological studies showed an increase in LP birth over time. Corresponding data for Germany have not yet been published. Our goal was to evaluate the epidemiology of LP over a 7 year period and the correlation to potential maternal risk factors in Hessen, Germany. Data was collected from the perinatal und neonatal quality assurance in Hessen form 2001 to 2007. For some calculations the two data sets were merged. Overall the data sets of 360.000 births and 44.000 neonatal hospitalizations were availa…
Best practices, challenges and innovations in pediatrics in 2019
2020
AbstractThis paper runs through key progresses in epidemiology, pathomechanisms and therapy of various diseases in children that were issued in the Italian Journal of Pediatrics at the end of last year. Novel research and documents that explore areas such as allergy, critical care, endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, neonatology, neurology, nutrition, and respiratory tract illnesses in children have been reported. These observations will help to control childhood illnesses.
Role of the gamma-glutamyl cycle in the regulation of amino acid translocation
1989
Amino acid translocation was studied in the mammary gland of lactating rats and in the placenta of pregnant rats. The uptake of amino acids by the mammary gland is maximal on days 10-14 of lactation and is minimal on days 19-21. However, on day 19 maximal uptake can be restored by injection of 1) small amounts of gamma-glutamyl amino acids, 2) 5-oxoproline, and 3) an inhibitor of 5-oxoprolinase. A severe decrease in uptake of amino acids at the peak of lactation is provoked by anthglutin, an inhibitor of gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT). Simultaneous injection of 5-oxoproline blocks these effects of anthglutin. In pregnant rats, inhibition (79%) of placental GGT activity by acivicin resul…

Morphology of placental villi after premature delivery and its clinical relevance
1986
Based on a new concept of maturation of the placental villous tree and its disorders (synchronous and asynchronous immaturity, asynchronous maturity, hyperpermaturity, and terminal villi deficiency) we studied the possible effect of the placental villous tree on the premature onset of labour. In mature normal neonates irregular and asynchronous villous patterns were found in 50% of cases. In prematurely delivered neonates, only 33% of the corresponding placentas show synchronous immature villous patterns. Uterine bleeding in the first trimester was associated with a 42% of incidence of premature maturation of the villous tree. These findings strengthen the idea that hormonal imbalance in ea…
Pregnancy in advanced maternal age: maternal and fetal outcome.
2014
The objective of this research is to evaluate maternal and fetal outcome of pregnant women over 40 years. The outcome has been evaluated through the following data: age, nationality, number of deliveries, complications of pregnancy, type of delivery, newborn's weight and APGAR index. 201 pregnant women have been recruited. The GDM has been observed in 11 women (5.5%). The antepartum haemorrhage has been observed in 7 women (3.5%). The cesarean section rate was 76% in the Group of primiparae woman and 64% in the Group of multiparae. The incidence of Children LBW (low Birth weight) was 17% in the primiparae and 10% in the multiparare.

2022
International audience; Objective: To provide national guidelines for the management of women with severe preeclampsia. Design: A consensus committee of 26 experts was formed. A formal conflict of interest (COI) policy was developed at the onset of the process and enforced throughout. The entire guidelines process was conducted independently of any industrial funding. The authors were advised to follow the principles of the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE®) system to guide assessment of quality of evidence. The potential drawbacks of making strong recommendations in the presence of low-quality evidence were emphasized. Methods: The last SFAR and CNGO…
