The normalized positive definite class functions are determined for all those direct limits of finite alternating groups for which the embeddings are natural in the sense that every non-trivial -orbit in is natural.
Star-products and phase space realizations of quantum groups

It is shown for a family of *-products (i.e. different ordering rules) that, under a strong invariance condition, the functions of the quadratic preferred observables (which generate the Cartan subalgebra in phase space realization of Lie algebras) take only the linear or exponential form. An exception occurs for the case of a symmetric ordering *-product where trigonometric functions and two special polynomials can also be included. As an example, the ‘quantized algebra’ of the oscillator Lie algebra is argued.
Periodic Polynomial Splines

In this chapter, the spaces of periodic polynomial splines and the Spline Harmonic Analysis (SHA) in these spaces are briefly outlined. The stuff of this chapter is used for the design of periodic discrete-time splines and discrete-time-spline-based wavelets and wavelet packets. For a detailed description of the subject we refer to (Averbuch, Neittaanmaki and Zheludev, Spline and Spline Wavelet Methods with Applications to Signal and Image Processing, Springer, Berlin, 2014) [1]. Periodic polynomial splines provide an example of mixed discrete-continuous circular convolution.

This a write up of a talk given at the MATRIX conference at Creswick in 2017 (to be precise, on Friday, January 20, 2017). It reports on work in progress with P. Candelas and X. de la Ossa. The aim of that work is to determine, under certain conditions, the local Euler factors of the L-functions of the fibres of a family of varieties without recourse to the equations of the varieties in question, but solely from the associated Picard–Fuchs equation.

The Transfer Function Method (TFM), recommended by American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), is one of the most modern tools available to solve heat transfer problems in building envelopes and environments. TFM utilises Z-transform to solve the equations system that describes the heat transfer in a multi-layered wall. High-efficiency silicon-compatible photodetectors based on Ge quantum dots

We report on high responsivity, broadband metal/insulator/semiconductor photodetectors with amorphous Ge quantum dots (a-Ge QDs) as the active absorbers embedded in a silicon dioxide matrix. Spectral responsivities between 1-4 A/W are achieved in the 500-900 nm wavelength range with internal quantum efficiencies (IQEs) as high as ∼700%. We investigate the role of a-Ge QDs in the photocurrent generation and explain the high IQE as a result of transport mechanisms via photoexcited QDs. These results suggest that a-Ge QDs are promising for high-performance integrated optoelectronic devices that are fully compatible with silicon technology in terms of fabrication and thermal budget. © 2011 Amer…

In this study, we use features extracted by Nonnegative Tensor Factorization (NTF) from event-related potentials (ERPs) to discriminate healthy children and children with attention deficit (AD). The peak amplitude of an ERP has been extensively used to discriminate different groups of subjects for the clinical research.
