Background Rapid maxillary expansion (RME) is a usual procedure for correcting the transversal maxillary deficiency. Among the most used appliances are the Haas type (tooth-tissue-borne) and Hyrax (tooth-borne) whose main difference is the design. Rank correlations, one-way and two-way ANOVA were used to test for associations between risk factors and percent of surfaces with wear. Results: 44 patients (31.9%) had at least one cervical lesion 1-2mm deep. 118 patients (85%) had dentin exposure on at least one incisal edge. Bilateral jaws involvement of Burkitt?s lymphoma in a pediatric patient

A case of Burkitt’s lymphoma with bilateral jaws involvement in a 5-year-old boy is reported discussing the dentist’s role in the diagnosis and management of this disease. The initial clinical diagnosis established of maxillary swelling causing trismus was a dentoalveolar abscess. The incisional biopsy was performed and histopathological analysis, including immunohistochemistry, confirmed the Burkitt’s lymphoma. The patient underwent treatment and remains free of the disease for 36 months of follow-up. The occurrence of intraoral bilateral jaws involvement of Burkitt’s lymphoma in child is unusual and its accurate diagnosis avoids complications in the patient’s treatment. Key words:Burkitt’…

Aspergillosis and Mucormycoses being the commonest of all the fungal infections involving maxillary sinus manifests as two distinct entities, a non-invasive and invasive infection. It is important to distinguish the invasive disease from the non-invasive as the treatment and prognosis are different in each. Mucormycosis is a rare, fulminant, rapidly spreading fungal infection, which usually affects patient with underlying immune deficiency. If not managed promptly, the disease is characterized by progressive necrosis and is often fatal. A review of English literature shows that only fourteen cases of mucormycosis have been reported after tooth extraction. This paper highlights two cases of mucormycosis subsequent to tooth extraction in healthy adult patients. This first patient presented with an oroantral fistula and extensive maxillary necrosis.
