Influence of fresh forage-based diets and αS1-casein (CSN1S1) genotype on nutrient intake and productive, metabolic, and hormonal responses in milkin…
2013
Abstract Polymorphism at the α S1 -casein locus ( CSN1S1 ) in goats influences several milk production traits. Milk from goats carrying strong alleles, which are associated with high α S1 -casein (α S1 -CN) synthesis, has higher fat and casein contents, longer coagulation time and higher curd firmness than milk from goats with weak alleles linked to low α S1 -CN content. Nutrition also affects these milk properties; therefore, it is important to better understand the interaction between dietary characteristics and the CSN1S1 genotype in goats. This study aimed to investigate the effect of fresh forage based diet or energy supplement on feeding behavior, milk production, and metabolic and ho…
Assessment of test-meal induced autonomic arousal in anorexic, bulimic and control females
1998
This study attempted to measure three different physiological responses to food intake in eating disordered subjects. Skin conductance level (SCL), heart rate and electroencephalogram were recorded before, during and after a test-meal in 42 females (14 anorexic inpatients, 10 bulimic outpatients and 18 control subjects). Significant increase in SCL during the meal was found in anorexics only. Pre-meal SCL was lower in bulimics than in controls and anorexics. No changes were found on heart rate or electroencephalogram in all groups of subjects. This suggests that anorexic inpatients may display a measurable arousal when confronted with a meal, whereas bulimic outpatients and control subjects…
Oral intake of cadmium, cobalt, copper, iron, lead, nickel, manganese and zinc in the university student's diet.
1993
A duplicate diet meal study was carried out with a group of university students living in a hostel, in order to estimate the intake of Zn, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni and Pb. Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn and Ni were determined by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry and Cd, Co and Pb by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry after a nitric acid wet digestion procedure. The estimated intake values from the contents of breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks were compared with the values of the Provisional Tolerable Daily Intake (PTDI) in the case of Cd and Pb, Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) of Co, Fe and Zn and Estimated Safe and Adequate Dietetic Daily Intake (ESADDI) of Cu and Mn. Neithe…
Bidrar idrettsarenaen til et helsefremmende kosthold? : En analyse av måltidsmønster, mat- og drikkeinntak og identifisering av potensielle påvirknin…
2017
Masteroppgave folkehelsevitenskap ME516 - Universitetet i Agder 2017 Background: Diet during adolescence is important for health in short and long term. The sports area is considered as a potential setting for creating a health promoting environment, since many adolescents are participating in organized sport. Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine differences in meal pattern, food and beverage consumption adolescents attending a soccer tournament compared with intake in everyday life. Method: The qualitative research conducted through semi-structured interviews (n = 7) consisting of soccer coaches, management of the tournament and sponsors of the tournament. Furthermore, a cross-sec…
Effects of repeated exposure on acceptance of initially disliked vegetables in 7-month old infants
2007
Publication Inra prise en compte dans l'analyse bibliométrique des publications scientifiques mondiales sur les Fruits, les Légumes et la Pomme de terre. Période 2000-2012. http://prodinra.inra.fr/record/256699; International audience; In the weeks following the start of weaning, 70 mothers were asked to identify a vegetable purée that their infant disliked and that they normally would not offer again. The 49 who did so were then asked to offer that vegetable on alternate days for 16 days, and to offer a well-liked one (carrot purée) on the other days. Amount eaten and acceptance were measured at each meal. On the first day of exposure, mean intake of the initially disliked vegetable was 39…
Optimal diet composition for European whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus): carbohydrate stress and immune parameter responses
2003
Abstract A feeding trial was conducted on the European whitefish to study the effects of replacing fish meal with fish oil and corn starch on the stress response and immune system parameters. Nine diets with varying levels of fish meal (FM; 38–86%), fish oil (FO; 2–22%) and corn starch (CS; 0–33%), and fixed levels of wheat meal (10%) and vitamin–mineral premix (2%) were formulated and replicates were allocated among 25 tanks following the D-optimality criteria. Fish were fed the extruded diets to satiation for 10 weeks in a flow-through freshwater system at 15 °C. The liver and plasma were sampled at the termination of the trial, and the response surfaces were modeled as Scheffe polynomial…
Salmo salar fish waste oil: Fatty acids composition and antibacterial activity
2020
Background and aims Fish by-products are generally used to produce fishmeal or fertilizers, with fish oil as a by-product. Despite their importance, fish wastes are still poorly explored and characterized and more studies are needed to reveal their potentiality. The goal of the present study was to qualitatively characterize and investigate the antimicrobial effects of the fish oil extracted from Salmo salar waste samples and to evaluate the potential use of these compounds for treating pathogen infections. Methods Salmo salar waste samples were divided in two groups: heads and soft tissues. Fatty acids composition, and in particular the content in saturated (SAFAs), mono-unsaturated (MUFA…
Quality Characteristics of Wholemeal Flour and Bread from Durum Wheat (Triticum turgidum L subsp. durum Desf.) after Field Treatment with Plant Water…
2015
The use of selected plant water extracts to control pests and weeds is gaining growing attention in organic and sustainable agriculture, but the effects that such extracts may exert on the quality aspects of durum wheat are still unexplored. In 2014, 5 plant water extracts (Artemisia arborescens, Euphorbia characias, Rhus coriaria, Thymus vulgaris, Lantana camara) were prepared and distributed on durum wheat cv Valbelice to evaluate their potential herbicidal effects. After crop harvesting, the major physicochemical and technological parameters of wholemeal flours obtained from each treatment were measured and compared with those from chemical weeding and untreated controls. A baking test w…
Tell me what you are eating, I will tell you who you are: The different eater styles among the elderly population
2012
National audience; Fish or rare steak? Fruit or pastry? Soup and ham or roast and dessert?... In order to explore the favourite meal of the elderly, a large survey was conducted including 559 people older than 65 (AUPALESENS survey). Different categories of elderly were interviewed, including people who are living at home either without any assistance or with assistance, and people who are living in a nursing home. Each respondent completed a questionnaire designed to explore three dimensions, namely meal content, eater style and pickiness. Regarding meal content, respondents were asked to choose among broad categories of dishes (e.g., salad, soup, roast, stew, veggies, cheese, fruit, pastry…
