The objective of this work was to better understand the water permeation through edible films when water is either in its vapour or in its liquid state related to their physico-chemical properties. Film based on iota-carrageenans or sodium alginate, containing or not fat, and encapsulating or not an aroma compound (n-hexanal) have been prepared. Films were conditioned at three different relative humidities, 0%, 43% and 84%. The incorporation of the n-hexanal in both types of biopolymer modifies the mechanical properties of film matrix and has a synergistic effect when associated to fat. This information mostly derives from faunal assemblage analyses and stable isotope studies: methods that tend to underestimate plant consumption and overestimate the intake of animal proteins. Comparison of Permeation Measurements and Hybrid Density Functional Calculations on Oxygen Vacancy Transport in Complex Perovskite Oxides

The oxygen vacancy (VO••) formation enthalpy (ΔHF) was determined from the effective activation energies obtained in the permeation measurements on a series of solid solutions La0.98–xSrxCo0.2Fe0.8O3−δ (x = 0.125–0.8) and compared with the results of ab initio calculations at finite temperatures based on the hybrid (PBE0) and GGA+U calculations, as well as previous thermogravimetric experiments. The Mulliken atomic charges, magnetic moments, and the Fe-VO•• and Sr-VO•• distances are analyzed. The strong dependence of formation enthalpy of VO•• on the Fe oxidation state due to variation in Sr and VO•• concentrations is discussed.

Abstract The objective of this work was to develop a simple and inexpensive transdermal formulation containing Nortriptyline Hydrochloride (NTH) for smoking cessation support therapy. Hydroxypropyl-methyl-cellulose was chosen as polymer and a mixture of transdermal enhancers (selected from previous research) was incorporated. Abstract The in vitro degradation behavior of poly- l -lactide (PLLA), PLLA/aragonite pearl powder and PLLA/vaterite pearl powder scaffolds was investigated. The scaffolds were soaked in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) up to 200 days. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to observe any degradation of the scaffolds. Degradation behaviors such as changes in pH, porosity, bulk density, water absorption, weight loss and mechanical properties were discussed. The intraspecific diversity of Leuconostoc mesenteroides, Lactobacillus curvatus, Lactobacillus sakei, and Lactobacillus plantarum was analyzed by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) PCR with universal primers M13 and T3. The study included 100 reference strains and 210 isolates recovered from two vacuum-packed Spanish meat products, fiambre de magro adobado and morcilla, previously identified by rDNA-restriction fragment length polymorphism profiles. The RAPD-M13 profiles identified isolates at species level in L. plantarum and L. mesenteroides, while RAPD-T3 provided profiles in L. sakei. A new analytical method for the simultaneous determination of enniatins (ENs) and beauvericin (BEA) in fish feed and fish tissues by liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry with linear ion trap (LC-MS/MS-LIT) was developed. Results showed that the developed method is precise and sensitive. The presence of emerging Fusarium mycotoxins, ENs and BEA, was determined in samples of aquaculture fish and feed for farmed fish, showing that all feed samples analyzed were contaminated with mycotoxins, with 100% coexistence.
