Il contributo focalizza l'attenzione su un media fortemente presente nella vita dei bambini: la televisione. Il lavoro dopo aver individuato i costrutti teorici relativi alla media literacy rileva la necessità di promuovere competenze mediali negli insegnanti perche possano adeguatamente valutare i programmi televisivi in modo da scegliere ciò che per i bambini è più idoneo e vantaggioso.

Publisher's PDF We investigated Finnish children’s use of print and electronic media in the home and their literacy development. Questionnaire data from 857 parents of preschoolers (collected in 2006 and 2007) and first graders (2008) showed that homes were well equipped with electronic media including Internet access in almost every home, although only a third of the children used the Internet. Television, print media, and videos/DVDs were more commonly used than computers. Most first graders but few preschoolers had mobile phones. The object of this article is to map correspondences between the literacy of books and the literacy of online video platforms, in order to create common ground between both media and assist transmedia storytellers in the task of exploring video platforms with in-depth knowledge of each textual element surrounding video content. The article proposes a comprehensive categorization and typification of surrounding information in the standard video pages of YouTube and Vimeo, using Gerard Genette’s theory of paratexts as a basic framework.
