Mass spectra of halogenated esters 6—Methyl esters of some trihalogenated propanoic and butanoic acids
1984
The mass spectral fragmentation of trihalogenated methyl esters, formed in the reactions of monochlorinated methyl propenoates and 2-butenoates with Cl2, BrCl and Br2, have been investigated. In most cases α-cleavage gives the base peak, [COOCH3]+, the peaks originating from the subsequent losses of one or two halogen atoms also being abundant. The primary loss of a halogen atom is more prominent in the C4 derivatives, Br˙ and Cl˙ being preferentially lost from the 2- and 3-positions, respectively. The McLafferty rearrangement yields in one case the base peak; the 2-halo compounds could in general be distinguished by that fragmentation. Typical for all 2-bromo-substituted methyl butanoates …
ortho-Metalation of aromatic ethers by yttrium alkyl complexes that contain a linked amido-cyclopentadienyl ligand
2003
Abstract The reaction of the half-sandwich alkyl complex [Y(η5:η1-C5Me4CH2SiMe2NtBu)(CH2SiMe3)(THF)] (1) with anisole smoothly gives the ortho-metalation product [Y(η5:η1-C5Me4CH2SiMe2NtBu)(2-C6H4OMe)(THF)] (2). 3- and 4-Methylanisole as well as phenetole analogously undergo ortho-metalation, whereas thioanisole, N,N′-dimethylaniline, fluorobenzene, and trifluorobenzene do not react with yttrium complex 1. 2-Methylanisole reacts with 1 under activation of the ring methyl group to give the 2-methoxybenzyl complex [Y(η5:η1-C5Me4CH2SiMe2NtBu)(CH2C6H4OMe-2)(THF)] (6). A single-crystal X-ray structure analysis of the 2-anisyl complex 2 revealed a four-legged piano-stool configuration with the me…
Improved Preparations of Molybdenum Coordination Compounds from Tetrachlorobis(diethyl ether)molybdenum(IV)
2001
International audience; The reduction of MoCl5 with metallic tin in diethyl ether provides a rapid and convenient entry to [MoCl4(OEt2)2] This compound can be transformed easily and in high yields into a variety of other useful synthons. The loss of ether in the solid state affords a new and reactive form of MoCl4. Treatment with THF, PMe3 or LiOtBu affords [MoCl4(THF)2], [MoCl4(PMe3)3] or [Mo(OtBu)4] in high isolated yields. Treatment with metallic tin in THF affords [MoCl3(THF)3] All of these reactions can be carried out under simple experimental conditions and represent significant improvements relative to previously reported syntheses of the same compounds.
Synthesis of plagiochiline N from santonin.
2001
This article reports the transformation of O-acetylisophotosantonin, obtained by photochemical rearrangement of santonin, into plagiochiline N, an ent-2,3-secoaromadendrane isolated from Plagiochila ovalifolia. The synthesis was carried out in a sequence involving as the key steps (a) the substitution of the lactone moiety by a gem-dimethylcyclopropane ring through a synthetic intermediate having a C(6)-C(7) double bond and (b) the ozonolysis of the C(2)-C(3) bond followed by cyclization to the dihydropyran ring characteristic of plagiochiline N. Spectroscopic data of the synthetic product fully coincided with the reported data for the natural product.
Photoinduced and Self‐Activated Nuclease Activity of Copper(II) Complexes with N ‐(Quinolin‐8‐yl)quinolin‐8‐sulfonamide – DNA and Bovine Serum Album…
2016
Two CuII complexes with a new quinoline sulfonamide derivative and phenanthroline (phen), [Cu(QSQ)(phen)]ClO4·0.5H2O (1) and [Cu(QSQ)(phen)(H2O)]ClO4 (2) [HQSQ = N-(quinolin-8-yl)quinolin-8-sulfonamide], have been synthesized and physicochemically characterized. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies have revealed a highly distorted trigonal-bipyramidal structure for 1 (τ = 0.68) and an almost perfect trigonal-bipyramidal geometry for 2 (τ = 0.92). DNA binding studies, which were performed by thermal denaturation, viscometry, fluorescence spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry, indicated a partial intercalation of 1 with Kapp = 2.45 × 106 M–1. The nuclease activity of 1 was investigated upo…
Fluorinated Heterocyclic Compounds. An Expedient Route to 5-Perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-triazoles via an Unusual Hydrazinolysis of 5-Perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-ox…
2003
The hydrazinolysis reaction of 5-perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles has been investigated. Nucleophilic addition of the reagent to the C(5)-N(4) double bond of the oxadiazole ring, followed by ring-opening and then ring-closure involving the beta-nitrogen atom of the hydrazino moiety and the C(3) of the oxadiazole ring, explains the formation of 5-perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-triazoles as final products. Useful applications in synthesis of this uncommon hydrazinolysis can be claimed.

[3,3′-Co(8-C5H10O-1,2-C2B9H10)(1′,2′-C2B9H11)] (2) was synthesized by reaction of the caesium salt of [Co(C2B9H11)2]− with dimethyl sulfate in the presence of sulfuric acid as catalyst and tetrahydropyrane as solvent; the zwitterionic compound (2) yielded [3,3′-Co(8-C4H4N-(CH2)5-O-1,2-C2B9H10)(1′,2′-C2B9H11)]− (6), [3,3′-Co(8-C8H6N-(CH2)5-O-1,2-C2B9H10)(1′,2′-C2B9H11)]− (7), and [3,3′-Co(8-C12H8N-(CH2)5-O-1,2-C2B9H10)(1′,2′-C2B9H11)]− (8) through the nucleophilic addition of potassium pyrrolyl, indolyl and carbazolyl, respectively. The nucleophilic addition of the same salts on [3,3′-Co(8-C4H8O2-1,2-C2B9H10)(1′,2′-C2B9H11)] (1) yielded, respectively, [3,3′-Co(8-C4H4N-(CH2)2-O-(CH2)2-O-1,2-C…

Bitterness and astringency of flavan-3-ol monomers, dimers and trimers
1999
Intensity of astringency and bitterness of seven flavonoid compounds was evaluated by a time-intensity (TI) procedure. Eighteen trained judges rated intensity continuously from ingestion, through expectoration at 10 s until extinction of the sensation. The seven stimuli included two flavan-3-ol monomers, (+)-catechin and (−)-epicatechin, three dimers and two trimers synthesised from catechin or epicatechin by condensation with (+)-dihydroquercitin. As the degree of polymerisation increased, maximum bitterness intensity (Imax) and total duration (Ttot) decreased whereas astringency Imax increased. The monomers were significantly higher in bitterness at Imax than the dimers, which were signif…
