Dill (Anethum graveolens L.) is an annual plant from the Umbelliferae. Although in cookery also sprouts and tender leaves are used, the drug from dill is represented by the scented fruits (“seeds”), largely used for flavouring conserved foods and liqueurs, but also by the herbal and cosmetic industry. Of the 44 currently accepted species of Phytophthora, 18 have been reported in the Mediterranean area. The status of each is briefly reviewed. On citrus, P. citrophthora and P. nicotianae var. parasitica are mainly responsible for foot rot and gummosis, and in addition P. hibernalis, P. syringae, P. cifricola and P. cactorum for brown rot of fruits. The incidence of these species is closely linked to their temperature requirements. The use of sour orange as a resistant rootstock has long provided satisfactory control of foot rot and gummosis, while chemical treatments are effective against brown rot. The Natural Park of the Albufera (Valencia, Spain) is a Mediterranean wetland where rice cultivation dominates the agricultural activity. The purpose of this study was to offer broader information about the current state of the wetland assessing the contamination by pesticides in four aquatic habitats during the rice cultivation period in 2016. Liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometer (UHPLC-MS/MS) was used to determine the pesticides in water and sediment samples from the rice fields, Lake Albufera and irrigation and outlet channels. 21 pesticides were detected in our samples (seven already forbidden by European legislation).
