Comparative evaluation of Nano-Hydroxyapatite preparation and Calcium Sucrose Phosphate on microhardness of deciduous teeth after iron drop exposure …

2016

Background To evaluate and compare the microhardness of deciduous teeth treated with nano-hydroxyapatite and calcium sucrose phosphate after iron drop exposure. Material and Methods Twenty healthy anterior deciduous teeth were collected and stored in 0.9% saline solution at room temperature. All the teeth were immersed in artificial saliva in an incubator shaker at 37° for an hour and then subjected to Vickers microhardness test at 100g load for 5 seconds. The teeth were then immersed in iron drop for 5 minutes, twice daily, rinsed with distilled water and kept in artificial saliva. This procedure was repeated for 7 days and teeth were subjected to microhardness testing. Further, the teeth …

Chemical properties and oxidative stability of Arjan ( Amygdalus reuteri ) kernel oil as emerging edible oil

2017

The oxidative stability, as well as the chemical composition of Amygdalus reuteri kernel oil (ARKO), were evaluated and compared to those of Amygdalus scoparia kernel oil (ASKO) and extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) during and after holding in the oven (170 °C for 8 h). The oxidative stability analysis was carried out by measuring the changes in conjugated dienes, carbonyl and acid values as well as oil/oxidative stability index and their correlation with the antioxidant compounds (tocopherol, polyphenols, and sterol compounds). The oleic acid was determined as the predominant fatty acid of ARKO (65.5%). Calculated oxidizability value and an iodine value of ARKO, ASKO and EVOO were reported as …

Arboreasides A−E, Triterpene Saponins from the Bark of Cussonia arborea

2009

Five new triterpene saponins, arboreasides A-E (1-5), and two known saponins, ciwujianoside C(3) and 23-hydroxyursolic acid 28-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1--4)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1--6)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl ester, were isolated from the bark of Cussonia arborea. The structures were established using extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses and mass spectrometry.

DFT calculation of NMR δ(113Cd) in cadmium complexes

2016

Abstract We have tested several DFT protocols, at the non-relativistic and relativistic ZORA (scalar and spin–orbit) levels, for the calculation of the 113Cd chemical shifts, δ(113Cd), for a number of cadmium complexes accounting for both different local coordination environments on the metal center, involving N, O and S ligands, and different geometrical arrangements. Moreover, suitable models as reference compounds for δ(113Cd) evaluation have been set up in order to propose a complete computational approach to calculate δ(113Cd) for cadmium complexes. Inclusion of relativistic corrections did not lead to any sensible improvement in the quality of results and, in this context, non-relativ…

Feeding ecology and chewing mechanics in hoofed mammals: 3D tribology of enamel wear.

2013

11 pages; International audience; Large herbivorous mammals have evolved chewing systems capable of processing a large variety of structurally diverse foods. Three-dimensional (3D) surface texture parameters are applied to investigate wear mechanisms related to tooth morphology, food source, and chewing dynamics. We tested 46 industrial 3D surface texture parameters for their capability to robustly indicate specific biomechanics in two grazing (Blue Wildebeest and Grevy's Zebra) and two browsing (Giraffe and Black Rhinoceros) ungulate mammals. These species inhabit sub-Saharan Africa and represent foregut and hindgut fermenters. The results did not indicate a wavelength threshold that can c…

Comparative study of techniques for large-scale feature selection* *This work was suported by a SERC grant GR/E 97549. The first author was also supp…

1994

The combinatorial search problem arising in feature selection in high dimensional spaces is considered. Recently developed techniques based on the classical sequential methods and the (l, r) search called Floating search algorithms are compared against the Genetic approach to feature subset search. Both approaches have been designed with the view to give a good compromise between efficiency and effectiveness for large problems. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the applicability of these techniques to high dimensional problems of feature selection. The aim is to establish whether the properties inferred for these techniques from medium scale experiments involving up to a few tens …

XRMA analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis of dental enamel from human permanent teeth exposed to hydrogen peroxide of varying pH

2019

Background This in vitroinvestigation shows how 3.3% H2O2, at different pH-values affects the enamel. Material and Methods A number of fifteen human premolars were used. The enamel of the coronal half in six of the teeth, were exposed by H2O2. Nine teeth were prepared to enamel powder. The enamel was exposed to 3.3% H2O2, at six different pH-values (pH range 4.5 - 7.0). Analyses of the topography of enamel performed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the chemical composition of enamel by X-ray microanalysis (XRMA). X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysed the crystallinity in enamel powder. Results The exposure to H2O2 at pH5.5 resulted in a decrease of O in the exposed enamel, and ch…

Laser-Casein phosphopeptide effect on remineralization of early enamel lesions in primary teeth

2014

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the effect of Nd:YAG laser irradiation following casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) application on calcium and phosphate concentration and surface microhardness (SMH) of enamel surface in artificial white spot lesions of primary teeth. Material and Methods: Eighty teeth with artificial white spot lesions were randomly divided into four groups: (A) distilled and deionized water, (B) Nd:YAG laser, (C) CPP-ACP crème, & (D) CPP-ACP plus laser. SMH was measured using Vickers diamond indenter in Vickers Hardness Number (VHN). Two samples of each group were analyzed using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results were a…

Logic gates scheme based on Coulomb blockade in metallic nanoclusters with organic ligands

2010

We propose a logic gates scheme based on the electron transfer through metallic nanoclusters linked to organic ligands and discuss theoretically the characteristics needed for practical implementation. As a proof-of-the-concept, we demonstrate the OR, AND and NOT gates and study the performance in terms of temperature, applied voltage, and noise.

Selective G-quadruplex stabilizers: Schiff-base metal complexes with anticancer activity

2014

The affinity of three square-planar nickel(II) (1), copper(II) (2) and zinc(II) (3) Schiff-base complexes for wild-type human telomeric (h-Telo) and protooncogene c-myc G-quadruplex (G4) DNA was investigated by UV-visible absorption spectroscopy and circular dichroism. DNA-binding constants (Kb) were determined by spectrophotometric titrations for both G4-DNA and B-DNA. The results obtained point out that the three metal complexes selectively bind G4-DNA with higher affinity, up to two orders of magnitude, with respect to B-DNA. The nickel(II) complex 1 was found to be the most effective G4-DNA stabilizer and the Kb values decrease in the order 1 > 2 ≈ 3. Innovative computational investigat…
