Synthesis, structure and magnetic characterization of a dinuclear and two mononuclear iron(III) complexes with N,O-donor Schiff base ligands

2018

Abstract One centrosymmetric dinuclear and two mononuclear iron(III) Schiff base complexes, [(µ-OMe)2Fe2(L1)2(N3)2] (1) {HL1 = 2-((2-(dimethylamino)ethylimino)methyl)-6-ethoxyphenol}, [FeL2(OH2)(N3)]·CH3OH (2) {H2L2 = N,N′-bis(3-ethoxysalicylidene)propane-1,3-diamine} and [FeL3(OH2)(NCS)]·2H2O (3) {H2L3 = N,N′-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)propane-1,3-diamine}, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and spectral studies. X-ray diffraction analysis was used to determine the structures of all three complexes. Variable temperature (2–300 K) magnetic susceptibility (χ) data of complex 1 show that both iron(III) centres in the complex are in a high spin configuration (S = 5/2)…

X-ray crystal structures of copper(II) and cobalt(II) complexes with Schiff base ligands. Reactivity towards dioxygen

2003

Copper(II) and cobalt(II) Schiff base complexes with derivatives of the pentadentate ligand bis(salicylideneimino-3-propyl)amine [H2salDPT] have been prepared. The X-ray crystal structures of the copper(II) complexes Cu[salDPT] and Cu[sal(n-propyltrimethylsilyl)DPT] were determined and revealed five-coordination at the metal centre in both cases. The 1 ∶ 1 dioxygen adduct of Co[sal(n-propyltrimethylsilyl)DPT] was also isolated and its X-ray molecular structure determined.

A Series of MIICuII3 Stars (M = Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn) Exhibiting Unusual Magnetic Properties

2014

The work in this report describes the syntheses, electrospray ionization mass spectromtery, structures, and experimental and density functional theoretical (DFT) magnetic properties of four tetrametallic stars of composition [M(II)(Cu(II)L)3](ClO4)2 (1, M = Mn; 2, M = Ni; 3, M = Cu; 4, M = Zn) derived from a single-compartment Schiff base ligand, N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-1,4-butanediamine (H2L), which is the [2 + 1] condensation product of salicylaldehyde and 1,4-diaminobutane. The central metal ion (Mn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), or Zn(II)) is linked with two μ2-phenoxo bridges of each of the three [Cu(II)L] moieties, and thus the central metal ion is encapsulated in between three [Cu(II)L] units. …

Synthesis and spectral studies on metal complexes with the neutral O,N,O-tridentate Schiff base 6-amino-5-formyl-1,3-dimethyluracil-benzoylhydrazone

1999

Abstract From the reaction between different Co(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Pd(II) salts and the Schiff base 6-amino-5-formyl-1,3-dimethyluracil-benzoylhydrazone (H 2 BEZDO), in ethanol and acetone media, five complexes with M/L stoichiometry 1/1, containing the neutral organic ligand, have been obtained. These compounds have been studied by IR, 13 C and 1 H-NMR, UV-VIS-NIR and EPR spectroscopies and magnetic measurements. A single crystal X-ray diffraction study has been carried out on the compound [Cu(ClO 4 )(H 2 BEZDO)(H 2 O)]ClO 4 . The structure consists of mononuclear cations [Cu(ClO 4 )(H 2 BEZDO)(H 2 O)] + and uncoordinated perchlorate anions. The coordination environment around the Cu(…

Syntheses, structures, electrochemical measurements and magnetic properties of two iron(III) complexes derived from N,N′-o-phenylenebis(3-ethoxysalic…

2011

Abstract The work in this paper presents syntheses, characterizations, crystal structures, electrochemical measurements and magnetic properties of two iron(III) compounds [FeIIIL(H2O)(MeOH)](ClO4) (1) and [FeIIIL(H2O)2](NO3)·H2O (2) derived from the Schiff base compartmental ligand N,N′-o-phenylenebis(3-ethoxysalicylaldimine) (H2L). The two compounds are characterized by elemental analyses, IR, electrospray ionization mass (ESI-MS positive), UV–Vis spectra and conductance values. The structures of 1 and 2 show that these are mononuclear compounds having the metal ion in the N2O2 compartment. Two mononuclear moieties in both the compounds are self-assembled due to bifurcated hydrogen bonds i…

Influence of the central metal ion in controlling the self-assembly and magnetic properties of 2D coordination polymers derived from [(NiL)2M]2+ node…

2014

Three new 2D coordination polymers (CPs) 2∞[(NiL)2Ni(μ1,5-N(CN)2)2]n (1), 2∞[(NiL)2Cd(μ1,5-N(CN)2)2]n (2) and 2∞[(NiL)2Zn(μ1,5-N(CN)2)2]n (3) have been synthesized by reacting a [NiL] “metalloligand” (where H2L = N,N′-bis(salicylidene)-1,3-propanediamine) with three different metal(II) (Ni, Cd and Zn) perchlorates and sodium dicyanamide, with identical molar ratios of the reactants. All three products have been characterized by IR and UV-Vis spectroscopies, elemental analyses, powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction and variable temperature magnetic measurements. The isomorphous compounds 1 and 2 consist of similar [(NiL)2M(μ1,5-N(CN)2)] (M = Ni for 1 and Cd for 2) angular trinuclear un…

Bioinspired Mo, W and V complexes bearing a highly hydroxyl-functionalized Schiff base ligand

2020

Abstract A series of bioinspired dioxidomolybdenum( vi), dioxidotungsten (vi) and oxidovanadium (v) complexes [MoO2(H2LSaltris)], [WO2(H2LSaltris)] and [VO(HLSaltris)]2 were prepared by the reaction of a hydroxyl-rich Schiff base proligand N-(1,3-dihydroxy-2-(hydroxymethyl)propan-2-yl)-3,5-di-tert-butylsalicylaldimine (H4LSaltris) with metal precursors in methanol solutions. Molybdenum and tungsten complexes crystallize as mononuclear molecules, whereas the vanadium complex forms dinuclear units. From the complexes, [VO(HLSaltris)]2 shows activity in the oxidation of 4-tert-butylcatechol and 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol, mimicking the action of the dicopper enzyme catechol oxidase.

Comparison of tritium measurement techniques for a laser cleaned JET tile

2014

Abstract Over the last 7–8 years, two quantitative analyzing methods—accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) and full combustion (FC) followed by scintillation detection have been applied for determining the tritium activity concentrations in JET divertor tiles. These methods have two main differences – the range of detection and the spatial resolution – and are thus complementary. However, these differences can also complicate the comparison of the two techniques for typical JET divertor samples. Therefore a cross comparison exercise for tritium measurements was performed between the two methods using specially produced identical standard samples. The cross comparison measurements were perform…

Risedronate complexes with Mg2+, Zn2+, Pb2+, and Cu2+: Species thermodynamics and sequestering ability in NaCl(aq) at different ionic strengths and a…

2021

Abstract In this paper, potentiometry and calorimetry were used to determine the thermodynamics of interaction between risedronate and four bivalent metal cations, namely: Mg2+, Zn2+, Pb2+, and Cu2+ in aqueous NaCl solutions at different ionic strengths and at T = 298.15 K. The data analysis allowed us to ascertain that the main species formed were the MLH2, MLH, ML and M2L; however scarcely soluble species precipitated at acidic pH values, between 4 and 7 depending on the metal cation involved, probably due to the formation of the neutral M2L(s) species. Comparison of the stability constants with other similar ligands suggests that metal complexation occurs through the phosphonate with an …
