Teraryl-based alpha-helix mimetics have resulted in efficient inhibitors of protein-protein interactions (PPIs). Extending the concept to even longer oligoarene systems would allow for the mimicking of even larger interaction sites. We present a highly efficient synthetic modular access to quateraryl alpha-helix mimetics, in which, at first, two phenols undergo electrooxidative dehydrogenative cross-coupling. The resulting 4,4′-biphenol is then activated by conversion to nonaflates, which serve as leaving groups for iterative Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-cross-coupling reactions with suitably substituted pyridine boronic acids. This work, for the first time, demonstrates the synthetic efficiency of …
Comparative hydroamination of aniline and substituted anilines with styrene on different zeolites, triflate based catalysts and their physical mixtur…
2014
Abstract Catalytic performances of different zeolites (Beta and mordenites), scandium triflate based catalysts, mesoporous UVM-7 encapsulated scandium triflate and physical mixtures prepared under ultrasound irradiation were evaluated in the hydroamination of aniline and substituted anilines with styrene. The performances of these catalysts were controlled by the type of acidity and strength. Thus, the conversion was mainly controlled by the strength of the acid sites and their accessibility, while the selectivity appeared to be controlled by the Lewis/Bronsted type of acidity. Lewis acid catalysts directed the reactions mainly to the formation of the Markovnikov adducts while Bronsted acid…
Effect of Iodination on the Photophysics of the Laser Borane anti-B18H22: Generation of Efficient Photosensitizers of Oxygen
2019
Treatment of the laser borane anti-B18H22 (compound 1) with iodine in ethanol gives the monoiodinated derivative 7-I-anti-B18H21 (compound 2) in 67% yield, or, by reaction with iodine or ICl in the presence of AlCl3 in dichloromethane, the diiodinated derivative 4,4'-I2-anti-B18H20 (compound 3) in 85% yield. On excitation with 360 nm light, both compounds 2 and 3 give strong green phosphorescent emissions (λmax = 525 nm, ΦL = 0.41 and λmax = 545 nm, ΦL = 0.71 respectively) that are quenched by dioxygen to produce O2(1Δg) singlet oxygen with quantum yields of ΦΔ = 0.52 and 0.36 respectively. Similarly strong emissions can be stimulated via the nonlinear process of two-photon absorption when …
Structural and metallo selectivity in the assembly of [2 × 2] grid-type metallosupramolecular species: Mechanisms and kinetic control
2011
An unsymmetrical bis(tridentate) ligand LH in which one binding site can be readily deprotonated forms a kinetically inert [Co(III)L(2)](+) complex which can be used as a "corner" species for the "Coupe du Roi" assembly of trans,trans-[Co(2)M(2)L(4)](6+) metallogrids (M = Fe(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Zn(II)). In the mixed Co(III)/Co(II) species, the oxidation states appear to be localised. In solution, the ligand LH forms octacationic, homometallic [2 × 2] grids with the individual labile metal ions Fe(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), seemingly as mixtures of all possible isomers arising from the unsymmetrical nature of the ligand. In the solid state, however, [Zn(4)L(4)](CF(3)SO(3))(8)·4CH(3)CN cry…
Molybdenum Pentachloride Mediated Synthesis of Spirocyclic Compounds by Intramolecular Oxidative Coupling
2015
The oxidative treatment of (m)ethyl 2-aryl cinnamates equipped with methoxy groups in position 4 of the phenyl moiety promote the formation of cyclohexadienone substructures. This dealkylative oxidative C–C coupling gives access to spirocyclic compounds and avoids the construction of the corresponding phenanthrenes. Furthermore, the transformation can be expanded to other spirocyclic systems.
Application of Rigidity-Controlled Supramolecular Affinity Materials for the Gravimetric Detection of Hazardous and Illicit Compounds.
2016
The combination of an (-)-isosteviol-derived building block and 9,9'-spirobifluorene or tetraphenylmethane generated highly potent new affinity materials for the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Comparison of their affinity behaviour with different core structures showed remarkable influence on selectivity and sensitivity due to structural rigidity and their pre-organization. Their unique supramolecular properties were investigated in an affinity assay using high fundamental frequency quartz crystal microbalances.

Theoretical investigation of the spin crossover transition states of the addition of methane to a series of Group 6 metallocenes using minimum energy…
2016
International audience; Density functional calculations are reported on the addition of methane to Group 6 metallocenes, M(η-C5H5)2 (M), M(CH2(η-C5H4)2) (a-M) and M(η-C5Me5)2 (M*) where M = Mo and W. Full geometry optimisations were carried out on the singlet and triplet 16 electron complexes, 1[M] and 3[M], the η2-methane complexes, 1[M(η2-CH4)], and the hydridomethyl adducts, 1[M(CH3)(H)]. The triplet state for [M] was found to be more stable for all six metallocenes, the difference being least in the case of the ansa-bridged system. Formation of the hydridomethyl complexes was exoenergetic for all tungsten systems and for a-Mo, the other two Mo systems being endoenergetic. Minumum energy…
A novel comprehensive procedure for estimating greenhouse gas emissions from water resource recovery facilities
2017
The emissions of the major greenhouse gases (GHGs), i.e. carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) from water resource recovery facilities (WRRFs) are of increasing concern in the water industry. In order to produce useful and comparable information for monitoring, assessing, and reporting GHG emissions from WRRFs, there is a need for a generally accepted methodology for their quantification. This paper aims at proposing the first protocol for monitoring and accounting for GHG emissions from WRRFs, taking into account both direct and indirect internal emissions and focusing the attention on plant sections known to be primarily responsible for GHG emissions (i.e. oxidation…
The high-resolution far-infrared spectrum of methane at the SOLEIL synchrotron
2010
International audience; As a tetrahedral molecule, methane has no permanent dipole moment. Its spectrum, however, displays faint absorption lines in the THz region, due to centrifugal distorsion effects. This is important for planetary applications since this region is used to measure methane concentration in some planetary atmospheres, in particular on Titan. Up to now, all measurements relied either on some old low resolution infrared absorption spectra, or on high resolution Stark measurements for low J values only. Even if these results have been reexamined recently [E. H. Wishnow, G. S. Orton, I. Ozier and H. P. Gush, J. Quant. Spectrosc. Radiat. Transfer 103, 102-117 (2007)], it seeme…
