Calorimetric study on the solubilization of some primary alcohols by reversed AOT micelles

1989

A calorimetric method to evaluate, at the same time, the distribution constant and the standard enthalpy of transfer of a solute partitioned between organic phase and reversed micelles is proposed. The method was applied to the partition of methanol, 1-propanol and 1-pentanol between n-heptane and AOT reversed micelles containing water at 25°C. The results show that the distribution constant decreases as the alcohol alkyl chain length increases and that the solubilization site can change as the water content of reversed AOT micelles increases. In particular, at sufficiently high water content, methanol seems to be preferably solubilized in the aqueous pseudophase whereas 1-pentanol prefers …

The synthesis of linear carbohydrate modified polysiloxanes has been successfully performed by hydrosilation of functionalized and protected carbohydrate derivates. The functionalization (allyl glycosilation) may be applied to a wide variety of reducing carbohydrates. In this study, mono-, di- and oligosaccharides were converted by a simple two-step reaction (β-acetylation and allyl glycosilation) into active compounds, allowing the polymer analogous addition to random poly[dimethyl-co-hydromethyl]siloxanes (hydrosilation). By variation of the Si–H amount in the starting polymers, polysiloxanes with 1.5% to 56% (by weight) carbohydrate content were prepared. At small degrees of substitution…

Complexation of phosphine ligands with peracetylated β-cyclodextrin in supercritical carbon dioxide: Effect of temperature and cosolvent on the equil…

2009

Abstract The interaction between peracetylated-β-cyclodextrin and tert-butyl and adamantyl functionalized triphenylphosphine derivatives was studied in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO 2 ) based solvent media by UV–vis spectroscopy. The equilibrium constant for a 1:1 complexation reaction was obtained from titration spectra both in pure carbon dioxide and in the presence of methanol as a cosolvent in the temperature range 308–323 K to estimate the internal energy and entropy of the inclusion equilibrium. The values of the equilibrium constants were found significantly smaller than those obtained in aqueous solution with analogous phosphines and substantially independent of the nature of t…

Aminoalkylbis(phenolate) [O,N,O] donor ligands for uranyl(VI) ion coordination: Syntheses, structures, and extraction studies

2007

Abstract The syntheses of five new aminoalkylbis(phenolate) ligands (as hydrochlorides) and their uranyl complexes are described. The reaction between uranyl nitrate hexahydrate and phenolic ligand [(N,N-bis(2-hydroxy-5-tert-butyl-3-methylbenzyl)-1-aminopropane) · HCl], H2L1 · HCl, forms a uranyl complex [UO2(HL1)2] · 2CH3CN (1). The ligand [(N,N-bis(2-hydroxy-5-tert-butyl-3-methylbenzyl)-1-aminobutane) · HCl], H2L2 · HCl, forms a uranyl complex with a formula [UO2(HL2)2] · 2CH3CN (2). The ligand [(N,N-bis(2-hydroxy-5-tert-butyl-3-methyl benzyl)-1-aminohexane) · HCl], H2L3 · HCl, yields a uranyl complex with a formula [UO2(HL3)2] · 2CH3CN (3) and the ligand [(N,N-bis(2-hydroxy-5-tert-butyl-…

Poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate based monolithic capillary columns for the analysis of polar small solutes by capillary electrochromatography

2018

Monolithic stationary phases based on poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylates for capillary electrochromatography were developed. Several poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylates (Mn 250, 575, and 700) were used as single monomers and the resulting columns were carefully compared. Methanol and ethyl ether were selected as porogenic solvents, and in all cases ultraviolet radiation was selected as initiation method to prepare polymeric monoliths. The influence of the monomer chain length and ratio monomer/porogen on the morphological and electrochromatographic properties of the resulting monoliths was investigated. Several families of compounds with different polarity (alkyl benzenes, organophosphorous pe…

Interaction of aminomethylated resorcinarenes with rhodamine B

2009

The interaction of aminomethylated resorcinarenes with a red xanthene dye, rhodamine B, was investigated in chloroform, methanol and chloroform–methanol solutions using UV-vis, NMR and fluorescence spectroscopy. Aminomethylated resorcinarenes 1 and 2 shift the rhodamine B equilibrium from the zwitterion to the lactone form unlike reference compounds 3 and 4, which do not contain tertiary amino groups at the upper rim, giving an example of how supramolecular hosts can influence the equilibrium of rhodamine B isomers.

Effect of the hydrophobic spacer in bonded [Cu(l-hydroxyprolyl)alkyl]+ silicas on retention and enantioselectivity of α-amino acids in high-performan…

1983

Abstract The following chiral ligands were bonded to silica: [Cu( l -hydroxyprolyl)methyl) + on LiChrosorb Si 60 (1), [Cu( l -hydroxyprolyl)methyl] + on LiChrosorb Si 100 (2) and [Cu( l -hydroxyprolyl) n -octyl] + on LiChrosorb Si 100 (3). The packings contained residual iodomethyl- and ω-iodooctyl groups at the surface. Studies on packing 1 and 2 under comparable conditions in eluents containing 10 -4 M copper acetate showed a higher retention on 1 than on 2 but a much better enantioselectivity in the latter case. The retention of enantiomers on all packings examined was found to be governed by the eluent pH and methanol content as well as by the concentration of ammonium acetate. The vari…

Evaluation of the quality of olive oil using fatty acid profiles by direct infusion electrospray ionization mass spectrometry

2008

Abstract Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry is used to predict the olive oil quality according to European Union marketing standards. Samples were 1:50 diluted in an alkaline 85:15 (v/v) propanol/methanol mixture and directly infused into the electrospray ionization source of an ion trap mass spectrometer. The establishment of ratios of the peak abundances of the free fatty acids followed by linear discriminant analysis was employed to predict the olive oil quality grade. In addition, using multiple linear regression and partial least-squares regression, the percentages of extra virgin and virgin olive oils in binary mixtures were predicted with 5–11% average prediction errors.

Fast determination of prominent carotenoids in tomato fruits by CEC using methacrylate ester-based monolithic columns.

2007

In this study, the major carotenoids (beta-carotene and lycopene) present in tomato fruits were analyzed by CEC with a methacrylate ester-based monolithic column. The effects of the porogenic solvent ratio, and the hydrophobicity of bulk monomer employed were examined on carotenoids separations. A fast separation of these analytes was achieved in less than 5.0 min in a mobile phase containing 35% THF, 30% ACN, 30% methanol, and 5% of a 5 mM Tris aqueous buffer, pH 8, with lauryl methacrylate-based monoliths. The CEC method was evaluated in terms of detection limit and reproducibility (retention time, area, and column preparation) with values below 1.6 microg/mL and 7.2%, respectively. The p…

Stannacycloalkyl and stannepinyl derivatives of dipeptides

1994

Stannacyclohexyl and stannacycloheptyl derivatives of dipeptides (CH2)nSnAA · xH2O (H2AA = H2GlyGly, with n = 5, x = 2 or n = 6, x = 1; H2AA = H2GlyAla, H2GlyVal, H2GlyMet, with n = 5, 6, x = 1) and stannepinyl glycylglycinate monohydrate have been obtained by the reaction of (CH2)nSnCl2 or stannepinyl dichloride with Na2AA. According to infrared and 119Sn Mossbauer data of the solid compounds, AA acts as a tridentate ONN ligand and tin has a trigonalbipyramidal environment. An analogous structure has been inferred from 1H, 13C, and 119Sn NMR data for the undissociated molecules in methanol solution.
