Interface Detection Using a Quenched-Noise Version of the Edwards-Wilkinson Equation

We report here a multipurpose dynamic-interface-based segmentation tool, suitable for segmenting planar, cylindrical, and spherical surfaces in 3D. The method is fast enough to be used conveniently even for large images. Its implementation is straightforward and can be easily realized in many environments. Its memory consumption is low, and the set of parameters is small and easy to understand. The method is based on the Edwards-Wilkinson equation, which is traditionally used to model the equilibrium fluctuations of a propagating interface under the influence of temporally and spatially varying noise. Automatic dynamic texture segmentation using local descriptors and optical flow

A dynamic texture (DT) is an extension of the texture to the temporal domain. How to segment a DT is a challenging problem. In this paper, we address the problem of segmenting a DT into disjoint regions. A DT might be different from its spatial mode (i.e., appearance) and/or temporal mode (i.e., motion field). To this end, we develop a framework based on the appearance and motion modes. Lattice Boltzmann Simulations at Petascale on Multi-GPU Systems with Asynchronous Data Transfer and Strictly Enforced Memory Read Alignment

The lattice Boltzmann method is a well-established numerical approach for complex fluid flow simulations. Recently general-purpose graphics processing units have become accessible as high-performance computing resources at large-scale. We report on implementing a lattice Boltzmann solver for multi-GPU systems that achieves 0.69 PFLOPS performance on 16384 GPUs. In addition to optimizing the data layout on the GPUs and eliminating the halo sites, we make use of the possibility to overlap data transfer between the host CPU and the device GPU with computing on the GPU. It’s Not Only What You Say, But How You Say It : Investigating the Potential of Prosodic Analysis as a Method to Study Teacher’s Talk

In this study, we introduce new insights into prosodic analyses as an emerging method to study what happens in classrooms interactions. We claim that the prosodic aspects (features of speech such as intonation, volume and pace) of talk are important, but under-represented in the learning sciences. These prosodic aspects may be used to complement, intensify or even reverse the linguistic content of speech. Brief description of the object of study The competition of the Palace of Justice in Rome takes place in four phases between 1884 and 1887. The project for the first competition in 1884 drawn up by the then very young Ernesto Basile (Palermo 1857-1932) reveals a great deal of design expertise that transforms the complex functional program into an austere building in neo-florentine style. The original drawings of the building not realized kept in the Basile Endowment of the Department of Architecture of the University of Palermo have been the subject of preliminary study to the phases of analysis interpretation and conceptual reconstruction of the digital model. 2. International audience; The advantage of skeleton-based 3D reconstruction is to completely generate a single 3D object from well chosen views. Having numerous views is necessary for a reliable reconstruction but projections of skeletons lead to different topologies. We reconstruct 3D objects with curved medial axis (whose topology is a tree) from the perspective skeletons on an arbitrary number of calibrated acquisitions.
