La Valutazione delle Tecnologie Sanitarie. The Health Technology Assessment

2004

The aim of this paper was to describe exhaustively, but concisely, the matter of the health technology assessment. It is a method of evaluating health technologies based on principles and tools of Evidence Based Medicine. We started from etymology to speak about its definition and implementation methodology. Moreover we guide the reader throughout the constellation of international societies of health technology assessment and the meaning of their international cooperation. Finally, we deal with the health technology assessment as a tool being an integral part of the clinical governance process.

From Research on Dialogical Practice to Dialogical Research: Open Dialogue Is Based on a Continuous Scientific Analysis

2020

Open dialogue is based on systematic research since the very beginning of the development. In every new phase of the development and reorganization of the psychiatric organization, research was needed for both understanding the phenomenon of the therapeutic processes and detecting the outcome of the new approach. The research is “naturalistic” in the way that it takes place within the everyday – natural – clinical practice following what happens there. This means that the research designs do not change the clinical practice for the research, as so often done in empiristic clinical trials. The research employs “mixed method research” to identify all the possible elements of the object of the…

On the Efficiency of Affine Invariant Multivariate Rank Tests

1998

AbstractIn this paper the asymptotic Pitman efficiencies of the affine invariant multivariate analogues of the rank tests based on the generalized median of Oja are considered. Formulae for asymptotic relative efficiencies are found and, under multivariate normal and multivariatetdistributions, relative efficiencies with respect to Hotelling'sT2test are calculated.

Communication and PR from a Cross-Cultural Standpoint

2012

How should we approach cultural diversity in the workplace? Multinational corporations, transnational project teams and glocalised production and distribution processes raise challenging cultural issues for communication and PR professionals. Yet the complex nature of the communication processes involved means that existing models of cross-cultural or intercultural communication often seem inadequate to allow researchers or professionals get to grips with the complexity of the interactions encountered. This book aims to pinpoint and address the apparent limits of many traditional intercultural communi-cation research methods, when they are applied to real situations in the hybrid and cosmop…

Efficient boundary integral-resonant mode expansion method implementation for full-wave analysis of passive devices based on circular waveguides with…

2013

In this study, the efficient full-wave analysis of passive devices composed of circular and arbitrarily-shaped waveguides is considered. For this purpose, the well-known boundary integral-resonant mode expansion (BI RME) method has been properly extended. Circular waveguides are used for resonant mode expansion, whereas the arbitrary contour is defined by any combination of straight, circular and elliptical segments, thus allowing the exact representation of the most widely used geometries. The proposed algorithm extends previous implementations of the BI RME method based on circular waveguides by considering circular and elliptical arcs for defining arbitrary geometries. Similarly, it allo…

Upport vector machines for nonlinear kernel ARMA system identification.

2006

Nonlinear system identification based on support vector machines (SVM) has been usually addressed by means of the standard SVM regression (SVR), which can be seen as an implicit nonlinear autoregressive and moving average (ARMA) model in some reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS). The proposal of this letter is twofold. First, the explicit consideration of an ARMA model in an RKHS (SVM-ARMA 2k) is proposed. We show that stating the ARMA equations in an RKHS leads to solving the regularized normal equations in that RKHS, in terms of the autocorrelation and cross correlation of the (nonlinearly) transformed input and output discrete time processes. Second, a general class of SVM-based syste…

PVAmpliconFinder: a workflow for the identification of human papillomaviruses from high-throughput amplicon sequencing

2019

Abstract Background The detection of known human papillomaviruses (PVs) from targeted wet-lab approaches has traditionally used PCR-based methods coupled with Sanger sequencing. With the introduction of next-generation sequencing (NGS), these approaches can be revisited to integrate the sequencing power of NGS. Although computational tools have been developed for metagenomic approaches to search for known or novel viruses in NGS data, no appropriate tool is available for the classification and identification of novel viral sequences from data produced by amplicon-based methods. Results We have developed PVAmpliconFinder, a data analysis workflow designed to rapidly identify and classify kno…

Synchronizing eye tracking and optical motion capture : How to bring them together

2018

Both eye tracking and motion capture technologies are nowadays frequently used in human sciences, although both technologies are usually used separately. However, measuring both eye and body movements simultaneously would offer great potential for investigating cross- modal interaction in human (e.g. music and language-related) behavior. Here we combined an Ergoneers Dikablis head mounted eye tracker with a Qualisys Oqus optical motion cap- ture system. In order to synchronize the recordings of both devices, we developed a gener- alizable solution that does not rely on any (cost-intensive) ready-made / company-provided synchronization solution. At the beginning of each recording, the partic…
