X-ray powder diffraction phase analysis and thermomechanical properties of silica and alumina porcelains

Chemical and mineralogical characterization, using the Rietveld method, of some silica and alumina rich porcelains and its relationship with thermomechanical properties have been studied in this work. X-ray powder diffraction analysis allows to differ clearly between silica and alumina porcelains. X-ray study shows that both porcelains have a content of vitreous phase. This vitreous phase is higher in the silica than in the alumina porcelain. Dilatometric studies combined with powder diffraction methods shows a strong relationship between silica content and a lower expansion coefficients and between alumina content and a higher crash resistance. Ab initio study of phase competition in (La1−c,Src)CoO3 solid solutions

Abstract (La 1 − c ,Sr c )CoO 3 (LSC) solid solutions are promising materials for high temperature electrochemical cells and cathodes of solid oxide fuel cells. The Density Functional Theory (DFT) was applied to calculate the energies of the different superstructures in LSC which are stable with respect to formation of anti-phase domains. The energy parameters determining the relative stability of the cubic superstructures (phases) are extracted from these calculations. This paper describes the outcomes of an teaching experiment conducted in the seminar held at the Faculty Engineering of Palermo University. The theme of the seminar focused on undergraduate experiment that yields the velocity distribution of thermionic electrons by analyzing the I-V characteristics of diodes and triodes. By using a simple model, the velocity distribution of thermionic electrons emitted by the vacuum tube cathode can be described by Maxwell's distribution. In-fiber Fabry-Perot refractometer assisted by a long-period grating

We present an optical fiber refractometer based on a Fabry-Perot interferometer defined by two fiber Bragg gratings and an intracavity long-period grating that makes the light confined in the resonator interact with the surrounding medium. The external refractive index is monitored by the resonant frequencies of the Fabry-Perot interferometer, which can be measured either in transmission or in reflection. In this first experiment, wavelength shifts measured with a resolution of 0.1 pm have allowed one to establish a refractive index detection limit of 2.1x10(-5).
Asymmetrically Apodized Fiber Bragg Gratings for Applications in Dispersion-Less Fabry-Pérot Fiber Cavities

Abstract This article presents a theoretical study of the dispersion properties of the asymmetrically apodized fiber Bragg gratings. It is shown that the dispersive behavior of these gratings may be changed from normal to anomalous, depending on the apodization function and the grating strength. The asymmetrical Bessel functions were chosen in order to demonstrate these properties of the gratings. The application of this effect in a dispersion-less Fabry-Perot fiber cavity formed by two asymmetrically apodized fiber Bragg gratings is discussed.
First results on dark matter annihilation in the Sun using the ANTARES neutrino telescope

A search for high-energy neutrinos coming from the direction of the Sun has been performed using the data recorded by the ANTARES neutrino telescope during 2007 and 2008. The neutrino selection criteria have been chosen to maximize the selection of possible signals produced by the self-annihilation of weakly interacting massive particles accumulated in the centre of the Sun with respect to the atmospheric background. After data unblinding, the number of neutrinos observed towards the Sun was found to be compatible with background expectations. AbstractWe apply the Google matrix algorithms for analysis of interactions and influence of 37 cancer types, 203 cancer drugs and 195 world countries using the network of 5 416 537 English Wikipedia articles with all their directed hyperlinks. The PageRank algorithm provides the importance order of cancers which has 60% and 70% overlaps with the top 10 cancers extracted from World Health Organization GLOBOCAN 2018 and Global Burden of Diseases Study 2017, respectively. Abstract Recent theoretical studies have demonstrated that the behaviour of molecular knots is a sensitive indicator of polymer structure. Here, we use knots to verify the ability of two state-of-the-art algorithms—configuration assembly and hierarchical backmapping—to equilibrate high-molecular-weight (MW) polymer melts. Specifically, we consider melts with MWs equivalent to several tens of entanglement lengths and various chain flexibilities, generated with both strategies.
