Basic Measure Theory
2020
In this chapter, we lay the measure theoretic foundations of probability theory. We introduce the classes of sets (semirings, rings, algebras, σ-algebras) that allow for a systematic treatment of events and random observations. Using the measure extension theorem, we construct measures, in particular probability measures on σ-algebras. Finally, we define random variables as measurable maps and study the σ-algebras generated by certain maps.
Inuentiones y translationes de S. Mercurio
2019
Inuentiones and translationes of the relics are part of the hagiographic dossier of a saint and provide interesting information about his cult over the centuries. For S. Mercurius of Caesarea the original texts in Greek have been lost, but we have two collections miracles in Coptic that narrate the inuentio and translatio of his relics and there is also a medieval tradition about his translatio to Benevento (Italy). From all these texts is deduced a healing cult of S. Mercurius based on the usual topics.
EPIGENETIC REGULATION OF NEUROGENESIS IN NON-DEMENTED HUMANS WITH ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE NEUROPATHOLOGY
This project was designed to investigate the role of neurogenesis and its epigenetic regulation by microRNA in the preservation of cognition against Alzheimer’s disease. This was accomplished by comparing by immunohistochemistry the capacity for neurogenesis in the subgranular zone of the hippocampus in 4 distinct populations of human subject’s tissue representing the full disease, intermediate cognitive decline, healthy controls, and a poorly characterized group who have all of the histopathological hallmarks of the full disease but are cognitively normal. To investigate the microRNAs of interest in the correct context, as microRNA expression can vary significantly by region, the granular …
Nemirstība kā ideāls Ge Hun daiļradē
2019
Gain lifetime measurement of a Ni-like Ag soft X-ray laser
2012
International audience; Experimental results of a two-stage Ni-like Ag soft X-ray laser operated in a seed-amplifier configuration are presented. Both targets were pumped applying the double-pulse grazing incidence technique with intrinsic travelling wave excitation. The injection of the seed X-ray laser into the amplifier target was realized by a spherical mirror. The results show amplification of the seed X-ray laser and allow for a direct measurement of the gain lifetime. The experimental configuration is suitable for providing valuable input for computational simulations. (C) 2012 Optical Society of America
Novel Insights and Therapeutical Applications in the Field of Inhibitors of COX-2
2004
The discovery of the two isoenzymes COX-1 and COX-2 and the knowledge of their function, localisation and regulation has initiated the development of COX-2 selective inhibitors (coxibs). Inducible COX-2 at the peripheral site of inflammation has been detected in the early 1990s, the involvement of recently detected spinal COX-2 has led to new insights into mechanisms of pain and may explain analgesic and antipyretic properties of COX-2 selective inhibitors. The coxibs rofecoxib and celecoxib have been introduced into therapy and seem to offer some advantages over the classical non-selective NSAIDs. The search for new COX-2 inhibitors is going on, the development of etoricoxib and lumiracox…
Probing mechanical quantum coherence with an ultracold-atom meter
2011
We propose a scheme to probe quantum coherence in the state of a nano-cantilever based on its magnetic coupling (mediated by a magnetic tip) with a spinor Bose Einstein condensate (BEC). By mapping the BEC into a rotor, its coupling with the cantilever results in a gyroscopic motion whose properties depend on the state of the cantilever: the dynamics of one of the components of the rotor angular momentum turns out to be strictly related to the presence of quantum coherence in the state of the cantilever. We also suggest a detection scheme relying on Faraday rotation, which produces only a very small back-action on the BEC and it is thus suitable for a continuous detection of the cantilever'…
CD2-mediated autocrine growth of herpes virus saimiri-transformed human T lymphocytes.
1992
Herpes virus saimiri (HVS) immortalizes T lymphocytes from a variety of primates and causes acute T cell lymphomas and leukemias in nonnatural primate hosts. Here we have analyzed the requirements for growth of three HVS-transformed human T cell lines. The cells expressed the phenotype of activated T cells: two were CD4+, and one was CD8+. All three cells responded to all allogeneic human cell lines tested with enhanced proliferation, production of interleukin 2 (IL-2), and increased expression of the IL-2 receptor. Binding of CD2 to its ligand CD58 was the critical event mediating stimulation because: (a) monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) to CD2 and to CD58, but not to a variety of other surfac…
Herpes virus saimiri-transformed human T lymphocytes: normal functional phenotype and preserved T cell receptor signalling
1993
Herpes virus saimiri (HVS), a primate herpes virus, transforms human CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes to continuous growth in vitro. We have previously shown that HVS-transformed human T cells (HVS-T cells) respond to stimulation via CD2 with autocrine growth. In the present study we have investigated the functional characteristics of HVS-T cells. We describe that these cells can perform all the functions of normal T cells, i.e. cytokine secretion, cytotoxicity, and exocytosis of granule esterases. All these activities can be triggered via CD2 by binding to its natural ligand or via the TCR, e.g. by anti-TCR antibodies, by recognition of a bacterial superantigen and by MHC-restricted recognition…
