Antipoxvirus Activity Evaluation of Optimized Corroles Based on Development of Autofluorescent ANCHOR Myxoma Virus

International audience; A series of 43 antiviral corrole-based molecules have been tested on myxoma virus (Lausanne-like T1MYXV strain). An autofluorescent MYXV, with an ANCHOR cassette, has been used for the studies. A(2)B-fluorocorroles display various toxicities, from 40 being very toxic (CC50 = 1.7 mu M) to nontoxic 38 (CC50 > 50 mu M), whereas A(3)-fluorocorroles, with one to three fluorine atoms, are not toxic (with the exception of corroles 9, 10, and 22). Release of copper-amended particles from micronized copper-pressure-treated wood during mechanical abrasion

Background We investigated the particles released due to abrasion of wood surfaces pressure-treated with micronized copper azole (MCA) wood preservative and we gathered preliminary data on its in vitro cytotoxicity for lung cells. The data were compared with particles released after abrasion of untreated, water (0% MCA)-pressure-treated, chromated copper (CC)-pressure-treated wood, and varnished wood. Size, morphology, and composition of the released particles were analyzed. Abstract ɛ‐Poly‐l‐lysine (ɛ‐PL) is a cationic peptide with a broad‐spectrum antimicrobial activity. This study investigates the use of ɛ‐PL as natural antimicrobial to inhibit fungal growth and to reduce aflatoxins (AFs) production. Antifungal activity of starch biofilms with different concentrations of ɛ‐Poly‐l‐lysine (ɛ‐PL) was determined in solid medium against Aspergillus parasiticus (AFs producer) and Penicillium expansum. Background Since the discovery of giant viruses infecting amoebae in 2003, many dogmas of virology have been revised and the search for these viruses has been intensified. Abstract Vip3 proteins are secretable proteins from Bacillus thuringiensis with important characteristics for the microbiological control of agricultural pests. The exact details of their mode of action are yet to be disclosed and the crystallographic structure is still unknown. Abstract Bacillus thuringiensis Vip3 proteins are synthesized and secreted during the vegetative growth phase. They are activated by gut proteases, recognize and bind to midgut receptors, form pores and lyse cells. ABSTRACT Leishmaniasis is one of the major neglected tropical diseases of the world. Druggable targets are the parasite cysteine proteases (CPs) of clan CA, family C1 (CAC1). In previous studies, we identified two peptidomimetic compounds, the aziridine-2,3-dicarboxylate compounds 13b and 13e, in a series of inhibitors of the cathepsin L (CL) subfamily of the papain clan CAC1. Abstract In the present work a series of aziridine-2,3-dicarboxylate inhibitors of papain-like cysteine proteases was designed, synthesized and tested. The compounds displayed selectivity for the parasitic protozoon Leishmania mexicana cathepsin L-like cysteine protease LmCPB2.8. The computational methods of homology modelling and molecular docking predicted some significant differences in the S2 pocket of LmCPB2.8 and cruzain, a related enzyme from Trypanosoma cruzi. Due to the presence of Tyr209 in LmCPB2.8 rather than Glu208 in cruzain sterically demanding, lipophilic ester groups (inhibitor 7d, 9d, 12d and 14d) are predicted to occupy the S2 pocket of the Leishmania protease, but do not…
