Characteristics of coronary microcirculatory function in patients with Takotsubo syndrome.

Background: Takotsubo syndrome (TS) is a recently described cardiac syndrome whose pathogenesis is still unclear. We investigated the characteristics of coronary microcirculatory function in patients with TS through the analysis of the TIMI frame count (TFC) compared to normal subjects and with to subjects with microvascular angina (MA). Therefore, the mechanism underlying cigarette smoke (CS)-induced arterial endothelial dysfunction and the potential link with fractalkine/CX3CL1 upregulation were investigated. Due to functional and morphological abnormalities of the terminal vascular bed in malignant tumors, a severe restriction of convective transport occurs even in very early growth stages. This leads to nutritional deprivation of the cancer cells and to unfavourable cellular microenvironments as well. Anderson–Fabry disease (AFD) is a rare disease with an incidenceof approximately 1:117,000 male births. Lysosomal accumulation of globotriaosylceramide (Gb3) is the element characterizing Fabry disease due to a hereditary deficiency α-galactosidase A (GLA) enzyme. The accumulation of Gb3 causes lysosomal dysfunction that compromises cell signaling pathways. Segmentation and feature extraction in capillaroscopic videos

This contribution describes a method to select regions of interest as capillaries of the oral mucosa and to extract their main features useful for real diagnosis purposes. A discrete version of the wavelet transform has been adopted for segmenting the images coming from video sequences acquired by a prototype capillaroscopic, able to put in evidence the red blood flow. A set of proper characteristics is automatically computed for a correct evaluation of the peripheral microcirculation.
