Abstract The density, genetic structure and diversity of airborne bacterial communities were assessed in the outdoor atmosphere. Two air samples were collected on the same location (north of France) at two dates (March 2003 (sample1) and May 2003 (sample 2)). Molecular culture-independent methods were used to characterise airborne bacterial communities regardless of the cell culturability. ‘Sobrasada’ is a raw-cured product typical of Mallorca (Balearic Islands). Throughout its ripening process the product, like other raw-cured sausages, undergoes a series of chemical and microbial changes which lead to the formation of its desirable final characteristics. In the ‘sobrasada’ studied, the breeds, feeding and casings used in the Balearic Islands were employed. The evolution of different groups of microorganisms was followed: mesophylic aerobic microorganisms, lactic acid bacteria, Enterobacteriaceae, yeasts and moulds, group D Streptococcus, proteolytic microorganisms and lipolytic microorganisms. The widely used explosive 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) has residues that are potentially explosive, toxic, and mutagenic. TNT and other explosives can be degraded by microorganisms; however, biostimulation is needed for process efficiency. To investigate the effectiveness of using biostimulation to degrade TNT, we added varying concentrations of a nutrient amendment consisting of inorganic salts, plant extracts, and molasses to soil and liquid media.
