Stem internodes with axillary buds were excised from 5-year old trees ofFicus benjamina cv. Exotica. The effect of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), gibberellic acid (GA3), indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) on shoot growth and proliferationin vitro was investigated. Multiple shoots were developed after 3–4 weeks from stem internodes with axillary buds incubated in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with phloroglucinol (PG) and BAP. Salix tarraconensis Pau ex Font Quer, an endemic willow species from northeast Spain, was micropropagated with nodal segments. Shoot multiplication was obtained with different cytokinins, either on Murashige and Skoog medium or woody plant medium. Best results for shoot formation were obtained on Murashige and Skoog medium containing 4.9 μM of 6-γ-γ-dimethylallylaminopurine. Shoots showed strong apical dominance, and some cultures displayed apical necrosis. Benzyladenine gave the worst results; shoots displayed very slow growth, deformed leaves, and hyperhydrity. In vitro plant regeneration of caper (Capparis spinosa L.) from floral explants and genetic stability of regenerants

A new technique to regenerate caper plants (Capparis spinosa L. subsp. rupestris) starting from flower explant is reported. In vitro plant regeneration was attempted using stigma, anthers and unfertilized ovules of unopened flowers collected in the field. Plant regeneration was achieved from unfertilized ovules on MS medium supplemented with 88 mM sucrose and 13 lM 6-benzyladenine (BA). Secondary somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration in myrtle (Myrtus communis L.).

Immature seeds, as well as hypocotyls and cotyledons excised from seedlings of Myrtus communis L., were cultured on media containing half-strength Murashige and Skoog macronutrients (MS/2) with combinations of auxins and cytokinins, in order to study their morphogenetic competence. Somatic embryogenesis was obtained from cotyledons, hypocotyls and 2-month-old immature seeds with 0.1 mg/l 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). The percentage of explants showing this primary somatic embryogenesis ranged from 4% for hypocotyls to 12% for 2-month-old immature seeds. Potential use of new diphenylurea derivatives in micropropagation of Capparis spinosa L.

A protocol for in vitro multiplication of caper (Capparis spinosa L. subsp. rupestris) from nodal segments collected from mature plants was developed. For shoot multiplication, one auxin (indol-3-butyric acid, IBA) and cytokinins of two different classes were used: the N6-substituted adenine derivatives 6-benzylamino purine (BAP), and the two synthetic phenylurea derivatives N-phenyl-N′-benzothiazol-6-ylurea (PBU) and N-phenyl-N′-(1,2,3-thidiazol-5-yl) urea (thidiazuron, TDZ). SummaryProcedures have been developed for the micropropagation of Daphne gnidium, a shrub species of ecological interest, using explants of juvenile and adult origin. Shoot proliferation rates were significantly affected by both salt formulation and benzylade- nine concentration. Best results were obtained on WP medium with 5 µM BA. Micropropagation of juvenile and adult Sorbus domestica L.

Successful propagation of seedlings and mature trees of Sorbus domestica L. has been achieved by in vitro methods. Multiple shoot formation was obtained by placing shoot apices or nodal segments on a modified Schenck and Hildebrandt medium containing benzyladenine. Regenerated shoots were excised and induced to root on media with auxin. In the best treatments 75–85% of shoots from juvenile material rooted. Rooting capacity of shoots from mature explants was lower (30%) and was not improved by dipping the base of shoots in concentration solutions of indolebutyric or naphthaleneacetic acids. Plantlets were ultimately established in soil.
