Refractory metal nuggets in different types of cosmic spherules

Abstract Out of the three basic cosmic spherule types collected from the seafloor, RMNs (refractory metal nuggets) have been reported from I-type spherules commonly, rarely from S-type spherules and never from the G-type spherules. Nuggets in the I-type cosmic spherules have formed by melting and complete oxidation during atmospheric entry, whereas no clear understanding emerged so far regarding the formation of the rare nuggets in S-type spherules. Boundary value steady solutions of a class of hydrodynamic models for vehicular traffic flow

This paper deals with the solution of a boundary value problem related to a steady nonuniform description of a class of traffic flow models. The models are obtained by the closure of the mass conservation equation with a phenomenological relation linking the local mass velocity to the local density. The analysis is addressed to define the proper framework toward the identification of the parameter characterizing the model. The last part of the paper develops a critical analysis also addressed to the design of new traffic flow models.

While retina and other ocular tissues are involved clinically and morphologically in a variety of lysosomal disorders, it is only the conjunctiva that is accessible by biopsy to morphological, i.e., electron microscopic recognition of the patient's individual lysosomal disease. However, this procedure is not utilized by many. A Coherent derivation of an average ion model including the evolution of correlations between different shells

We propose in this short note a method enabling to write in a systematic way a set of refined equations for average ion models in which correlations between populations are taken into account, starting from a microscopic model for the evolution of the electronic configura- tion probabilities. Numerical simulations illustrating the improvements with respect to standard average ion models are presented at the end of the paper.

Results of the first-principles study of diffusion-controlled aggregation of Frenkel defects-interstitial atoms-under irradiation of solids are presented. Conditions of the efficient radiation-induced aggregation of vacancies and interstitials are studied and the scenario of this process is presented.
Solitons and their observable signatures in quasi-one-dimensional systems

We give an overview of the experimental signatures of nonlinear waves: notably topological and non topological solitons, in specific quasi-one-dimensional devices and condensed matter systems. Non topological solitons can be easily observed and manipulated, on a macroscopic scale, in optical fibers and electrical transmission lines. Topological solitons have been clearly identified as fluxons in Josephson transmission lines and as domain walls in condensed matter systems such as magnetic chains and synthetic polymers.
