Use of poly(amidoamine) drug conjugates for the delivery of antimalarials to Plasmodium

Current malaria therapeutics demands strategies able to selectively deliver drugs to Plasmodium-infected red blood cells (pRBCs) in order to limit the appearance of parasite resistance. Here, the poly(amidoamines) AGMA1 and ISA23 have been explored for the delivery of antimalarial drugs to pRBCs. AGMA1 has antimalarial activity per se as shown by its inhibition of the in vitro growth of Plasmodium falciparum, with an IC50 of 13.7 μM. Detection of  9-Tetrahydrocannabinol and Amphetamine-Type Stimulants in Oral Fluid Using the Rapid Stat  Point-of-Collection Drug-Testing Device

The Rapid Stat assay, a point-of-collection drug-testing device for detection of amphetamines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, methadone, and benzodiazepines in oral fluid, was evaluated for cannabis and amphetamine-type stimulants. The Rapid Stat tests (n = 134) were applied by police officers in routine traffic checks. Oral fluid and blood samples were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol, amphetamine, methamphetamine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine, methylenedioxyethylamphetamine, and methylenedioxyamphetamine. Spectroscopic properties of pure and Coumarin 153-doped thin films of sol-gel silica xerogels

Abstract Thin-films doped with Coumarin 153, an important laser dye, have been prepared by the sol-gel method. Spectroscopic properties of the entrapped dye are studied by electronic absorption, diffuse reflectance, electronic excitation, emission and time-resolved emission techniques. The obtained results indicate that the entrapment of the dye results in formation of molecular aggregates having absorption and emission characteristics different from those of the monomeric dye. The blue matrix emission band (at approx. 450 nm) is relatively short-lived while the red band (at approx. 700 nm) displays a very long lifetime. Two new heteroleptic iridium(III) complexes [Ir(ppy)(2)(pyr(2)bpy)][PF(6)] ([1a][PF(6)]) and [Ir(dfppy)(2)(pyr(2)bpy)][PF(6)] ([2a][PF(6)]), where Hppy = 2-phenylpyridine, Hdfppy = 2-(3,5-difluorophenyl)pyridine, and pyr(2)bpy = 5,5'-bis(pyren-1-yl)-2,2'-bipyridine, have been synthesized and fully characterized. Photophysical Properties of Charged Cyclometalated Ir(III) Complexes: A Joint Theoretical and Experimental Study

The photophysical properties of a series of charged biscyclometalated [Ir(ppy)(2)(N boolean AND N)](1+) complexes, where ppyH is 2-phenylpyridine and N boolean AND N is 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy), 6-phenyl-2,2'-bipyridine (pbpy), and 6,6'-dipheny1-2,2'-bipyridine (dpbpy) for complexes 1, 2, and 3, respectively, have been investigated in detail. The photoluminescence performance in solution decreases from 1 to 3 upon attachment of phenyl groups to the ancillary ligand. Luminescence of gamma-radiation-induced defects in alpha-quartz

Optical transitions associated with gamma-radiation-induced defects in crystalline a-quartz were investigated by photoluminescence excited by both pulsed synchrotron radiation and steady-state light. After a 10 MGy gamma-dose we observed two emissions at 4.9 eV (ultraviolet band) and 2.7 eV (blue band) excitable in the range of the induced absorption band at 7.6 eV. These two luminescence bands show a different temperature dependence: the ultraviolet band becomes bright below 80 K; the blue band increases below 180 K, but drops down below 80 K. Band-to-Band and Band-to-Acceptor Photoluminescence Studies in InSe under Pressure

We report on photoluminescence (PL) measurements under pressure on p-type N-doped InSe at 10 K and on n-type Si-doped InSe at room temperature. Low-temperature PL of N-doped InSe is dominated by a band-to-acceptor peak. From the pressure dependence of the ionization energy of the N related shallow acceptor, the pressure change of the hole effective mass is estimated through the Gerlach-Pollmann model for hydrogenic levels in uniaxial crystals and discussed in the framework of a k p model. Room temperature PL in Si-doped InSe is dominated by a band-to-band peak exhibiting a pressure shift in agreement with previous works.
