Celebrating Multiculturalism: European Multicultural Media Initiatives as Anti-Racist Practices

Looking back on 20 years of European media policy, which reflects issues of ethnic minorities and immigrants there are significant developments in both policy and implementation. The recent European initiatives to increase cultural diversity in the media at a high institutional level stress that ethnic minorities and new immigrants should get access to both the screen and the newsroom. The artide presents a local initiative of the German minority in Chrząstowice, which encourages children and youths to pursue a two-way activity, that is learning a minority language and actively spending free time outdoors. The author describes the functions of supporting minority languages and the parents’ motivation to let their children attend classes at the football academy. The study was conducted using the following research methods: individual in-depth interview (IDI) with the founder of the football academy and a ąuestionnaire survey filled in individually by the parents.

PurposeThis paper discusses the challenges that two doctoral researchers faced while researching religious minorities and women in a culturally sensitive society such as Pakistan. Their shared interest in sensitive topics related to gender and minorities in Pakistan led both researchers to collaborate in this study to provide a better understanding of issues in qualitative research in the same research context.
