The NMR structure of the sensory domain of the membranous two-component fumarate sensor (histidine protein kinase) DcuS of Escherichia coli

The structure of the water-soluble, periplasmic domain of the fumarate sensor DcuS (DcuS-pd) has been determined by NMR spectroscopy in solution. DcuS is a prototype for a sensory histidine kinase with transmembrane signal transfer. DcuS belongs to the CitA family of sensors that are specific for sensing di- and tricarboxylates. The periplasmic domain is folded autonomously and shows helices at the N and the C terminus, suggesting direct linking or connection to helices in the two transmembrane regions. Influence of the C-terminus of the glycophorin A transmembrane fragment on the dimerization process

The monomer-dimer equilibrium of the glycophorin A (GpA) transmembrane (TM) fragment has been used as a model system to investigate the amino acid sequence requirements that permit an appropriate helix-helix packing in a membrane‐mimetic environment. In particular, we have focused on a region of the helix where no crucial residues for packing have been yet reported. Various deletion and replacement mutants in the C‐terminal region of the TM fragment showed that the distance between the dimerization motif and the flanking charged residues from the cytoplasmic side of the protein is important for helix packing. ISOLATION OF RAT CDNA CLONES CODING FOR THE AUTOANTIGEN SS-B/LA - DETECTION OF SPECIES-SPECIFIC VARIATIONS

Clones of cDNA coding for the autoantigen La (or SS-B) were isolated from a library made from rat liver. A comparison of the rat La cDNA (encoding from nt 38 to 1281 for rat La protein) with the sequences known for human and bovine La protein resulted in the identification of species-specific inserts. The inserts seem to be the result of multiplication of flanking sequences during evolution. In addition to these variations, we observed that rat La cDNAs exhibit non-canonical polyadenylation sites. Characterizing the N-terminal processing motif of MHC class I ligands.

Abstract Most peptide ligands presented by MHC class I molecules are the product of an intracellular pathway comprising protein breakdown in the cytosol, transport into the endoplasmic reticulum, and successive N-terminal trimming events. The efficiency of each of these processes depends on the amino acid sequence of the presented ligand and its precursors. Thus, relating the amino acid composition N-terminal of presented ligands to the sequence specificity of processes in the pathway gives insight into the usage of ligand precursors in vivo. The diamond partial order in rings

In this paper we introduce a new partial order on a ring, namely the diamond partial order. This order is an extension of a partial order defined in a matrix setting in [J.K. Baksalary and J. Hauke, A further algebraic version of Cochran's theorem and matrix partial orderings, Linear Algebra and its Applications, 127, 157--169, 1990]. We characterize the diamond partial order on rings and study its relationships with other partial orders known in the literature. We also analyze successors, predecessors and maximal elements under the diamond order.

Abstract Most of the historical paints are mainly constituted by inorganic pigments, either pure or mixed, spread on the surfaces using different binding agents. The knowledge of the exact amount of different constituents of the paint, as well as of the mixing and pictorial techniques, is crucial for a careful program of conservation of polychrome works.
