A survey on features of allergic rhinitis in children
2013
Objective: A number of epidemiologic studies evaluated the prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR), but few data are available on its different clinical presentations. We addressed this survey to assess the features of AR in children and adolescents. Methods: Thirty-five centers in Italy included 2623 pediatric patients with rhinitis, of whom 2319 suffered from AR, while 304 had other kinds of rhinitis. For each patient a standardized questionnaire was filled in, including ARIA classification, the duration of symptoms, the allergen identified as clinically relevant, the co-morbidities, the kind of treatment, the response to treatment, the satisfaction with the treatment, and the feasibility of…

THE VALIDATION OF A SELF-ASSESSMENT TOOL FOR THE TEACHER'S PRACTICES THAT EMBRACES THE NEURO-EDUCATIONAL APPROACH
2021
This contribution intends to present a study and research path that, starting from the theoretical framework of neuro-education, has led to the identification of five indicators (transversal area, socio-emotional-affective area, cognitive area, linguistic-communicative area, praxico-motor) on the basis of which a neuro-evaluation tool for teachers was built and validated: Self-assessment questionnaire of neuro-didactic and educational practices for teachers. Neuroscientific research is offering numerous points of reflection-action on the functioning of the brain and on how to modify the teaching and the educational proposal to improve the performance and growth of the person. However, the p…
Studies on Reticulitermes lucifugus Rossi (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae): a review of associated hindgut flagellates and investigations on protist speci…
2017
The present study was conducted on protist species from R. lucifugus “Sicily” subspecies in a field site of Palermo (Sicily, Italy) on June 2015. Since protist species associated with R. lucifugus in Europe are still confused and recent revisions are lacking, this work aims at achieving greater clarity on these symbiosis trough a review of the literature in light of new phylogenetic studies on this termite species. The purpose of this work was also to highlight and quantify protists associated with the Sicilian subspecies, R. l. “Sicily”. Results pointed out the real protist community attributable to R. lucifugus from the literature and showed 13 protist species detected in the subspecies R…
L’acarofauna utile (Parasitiformes, Phytoseiidae) associata alle specie forestali del sito Natura 2000 “Bosco di S. Adriano”
2008
Within the acarofauna present in ecosystems, the Phytoseiidae family has a relevant role as it includes species considered as the most important biocontrol agents of phytophagous mites. Their specific composition in various habitats is influenced by numerous factors both biotics and abiotics, while the number of species increases if the complexity of the ecosystem increases. In order to know the specific composition of phytoseiid mites in two natural habitats and to check possible changes in a near future, a survey of phytoseiid mites was carried out in a Natura 2000 location S. Adriano woods (Sicily). This research was done within the project ManagMED “Integrated development and management…
PALAZZO STERI DI PALERMO, SOFFITTO LIGNEO DELLA SALA MAGNA INDAGINE FITOSANITARIA
2012
ABSTRACf - Steri Palace of Palermo; Wooden Ceiling of the "Sala Magna ", Phytosanitary Survey. The Steri Palace (from Hosterium = fortified residence) of Palermo was built in the early fourteenth century, exactly from 1307 to 1320, it was Chiaramonte's family residence. Later, it became the seat of the viceroy of Sicily (from 1412 to 1577), of the Director of the Royal "Magna Curia", and Royal Customs (until 1698), of the Inquisition Tribunal (from 1701 to 1792), of the Judicial offices and Custom offices (from 1800 to 1958). Today it is the Centre of the Chancellor's offices of the University of Palermo. It contains several interesting cultural heritage artefacts, including the beautiful d…
Grapevine pests in Sicily.
2008
More than twenty phytophagous species are reported associated with Sicilian vineyards. Only a quarter of them have to be considered of economic importance. Among moths, the grapevine moth Lobesia botrana (Denis & Schiffermüller) is certainly the most frequent species. It is considered the key pest on both table and wine grapes, while the incidence of the grape berry moth Eupoecilia ambiguella (Hübner) is scarce and linked to particular biotopes. Three to four flights are reported for the grapevine moth from February-March to October-November, while no data are available for the grape berry moth. Damages caused by L. botrana are strictly linked to the climatic trends during the summer period…
On MR Differential with Limited Slip
2014
Design of a magnetorheological (MR) sports car differential is presented in this paper, with the aim of the total mass reduction and the torque maintenance. The torque output is controlled by adjusting the applied magnetic field. The nominal output torque of the differential is derived by using Bingham plastic constitutive model; the choice of the materials occurs to minimize the thickness of the circuit, but preliminary sizing based on electromagnetic theory does not lead to satisfactory results. Electromagnetic finite element analysis (FEA) is performed to estimate the effective distribution of the magnetic field. The shear stress distribution in MR Fluid is theoretically predicted using …
