Ribosome Heterogeneity in Plant and Animal Organisms. Its Relationship to Ribosomal Ambiguity and to Ribosome Evolution

Abstract The data presented and discussed in this report summarize evidence showing that ribosomes isolated from several eucaryotic (plant and animal) organisms exhibit ample variations of the composition of their protein moiety and that the degree of dissimilarity correlates with the degree of taxonomic kinship of the organisms from which the ribosomes were derived. Plastid-nuclear complexes in the photosynthesizing cells from their mitosis up to programmed death

Permanent plastid-nuclear complexes (PNCs) exist in tobacco cells from their mitosis up to programmed cell death (PCD). PNCs in senescing cells of tobacco leaves were typical by enclosure of peroxisomes and mitochondria among chloroplasts which were in contact with nucleus. Such a complex position provides simultaneous interaction of these organelles and direct regulation of metabolism and PCD avoiding the cytosol.

En este ensayo se reconstruye el recorrido narrativo de Christa Wolf desde una perspectiva que propongo definir como destitución mitológica. Se fijan cuatro estaciones correspondientes con las cuatro novelas cruciales en la biografía literaria de la autora. EphrinB2 controls vessel pruning through STAT1-JNK3 signalling

Angiogenesis produces primitive vascular networks that need pruning to yield hierarchically organized and functional vessels. Despite the critical importance of vessel pruning to vessel patterning and function, the mechanisms regulating this process are not clear. Here we show that EphrinB2, a well-known player in angiogenesis, is an essential regulator of endothelial cell death and vessel pruning. This regulation depends upon phosphotyrosine-EphrinB2 signalling repressing c-jun N-terminal kinase 3 activity via STAT1. JNK3 activation causes endothelial cell death. Abstract The response to hyperosmotic stress is mediated by the HOG pathway. The MAP kinase Hog1 activates several transcription factors, regulates chromatin-modifying enzymes and, through its interaction with RNA polymerase II, it directs this enzyme to osmotic stress-controlled genes. For such targeting, this kinase requires the interaction with transcription factors Hot1 and Sko1. However, phosphorylation of these proteins by Hog1 is not required for their functionality. Abstract Background While growing in natural environments yeasts can be affected by osmotic stress provoked by high glucose concentrations. The response to this adverse condition requires the HOG pathway and involves transcriptional and posttranscriptional mechanisms initiated by the phosphorylation of this protein, its translocation to the nucleus and activation of transcription factors. One of the genes induced to respond to this injury is YHR087W. Staining mitochondria in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

After testing various procedures (amidoblack 10B, acid fuchsin-methyl blue, Luxol fast blue MBS-phloxine, toluidine blue O, Jams green B and pinacyanol), three stains can be recommended for staining both types of mitochondria (globose and threadlike) in the cells of Saccharomyces cerevisiae: (1) 0.1% solution of amidoblack 10B in citrate buffer (pH 3.0) for 10 min; (2) 0.01% solution of toluidine blue O in phosphate buffer (pH 6.0) for 30 min; (3) 0.01% solution of Janus green B in distilled water (pH 5.6) for 30 min. Cancer chemotherapy can induce tumor regression followed, in many cases, by relapse in the long-term. Thus this study was performed to assess the determinants of such phenomenon using an in vivo cancer model and in vitro approaches. When animals bearing an established tumor are treated by cisplatin, the tumor initially undergoes a dramatic shrinkage and is characterized by giant tumor cells that do not proliferate but maintain DNA synthesis.
