The diagnostic significance of IgG cow's milk protein antibodies re-evaluated

The effect of different feeding regimens, notably the use of hydrolysed cow's milk formulas, on the development of allergic reactions and the development of cow's milk protein-IgG antibodies is still disputed. We prospectively compared the development of allergic manifestations and cow's milk protein-IgG antibodies in a total of 702 infants who were divided into six groups: Cow's milk protein antibodies were determined by an indirect immuno-fluorescent test. Antibody titres rose slowly in groups 1, 3 and 6. Children in group 5 showed two high peaks. Purpose Allopurinol reduces oxidative tissue damage and exerts immunomodulating effects in the treatment of experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU). However, the mechanism of the immunologic pathway remains unclear. In previous studies, treatment was started at the time of immunization. Antiretroviral therapy abrogates association between arginase activity and HIV disease severity

AbstractArginase-induced L-arginine deprivation is emerging as a key mechanism for the downregulation of immune responses. We hypothesised that arginase activity increases with disease severity in HIV-seropositive patients. Our results show that peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from 23 HIV-seropositive patients with low CD4+ T cell counts (≤350 cells/μl) expressed significantly more arginase compared with 21 patients with high CD4+ T cell counts. The release of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS and RNS) during the inflammatory response generates damages to host tissues, referred to as immunopathology, and is an important factor in ecological immunology. Complete congenital heart block is associated with increased autoantibody titers against calreticulin.

Complete congenital heart block (CCHB) is associated with anti-Ro/SS-A and anti-La/SS-B antibodies. Calreticulin, a calcium-binding, multi-functional protein of the endoplasmic reticulum with C-terminal KDEL-sequence, is not part of the Ro/SS-A ribonucleoprotein complex. In this study anti-calreticulin autoantibody responses in serum samples from 18 infants with CCHB, their mothers and in a control group of 11 anti-Ro/SS-A or anti-La/SS-B positive infants without heart block and their mothers were analysed. No pol mutation is associated independently with the lack of immune recovery in patients infected with HIV and failing antiretroviral therapy

An investigation was undertaken to determine whether specific pol mutations hinder long-term immune recovery regardless of virological response. In total, 826 patients with >50 HIV RNA copies/ml, who underwent genotypic resistance testing between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2003 after >3 years of antiretroviral treatment, and were followed up for >3 years after genotypic resistance testing, were analyzed retrospectively. Complement component deficiencies and infection: C5, C8 and C3 deficiencies in three families.

Three families are described with complement component deficiencies. In one family, five children had C5 deficiency; in a second family, two children had C8 deficiency and one child in a third family had C3 deficiency. The index cases were identified during screening of patients with recurrent pyogenic infections, recurrent meningitis and meningococcaemia.
