Multi-objective optimization for computation offloading in mobile-edge computing

2017

Mobile-edge cloud computing is a new cloud platform to provide pervasive and agile computation augmenting services for mobile devices (MDs) at anytime and anywhere by endowing ubiquitous radio access networks with computing capabilities. Although offloading computations to the cloud can reduce energy consumption at the MDs, it may also incur a larger execution delay. Usually the MDs have to pay cloud resource they used. In this paper, we utilize queuing theory to bring a thorough study on the energy consumption, execution delay and price cost of offloading process in a mobile-edge cloud system. Specifically, both wireless transmission and computing capabilities are explicitly and jointly co…

Psychiatrists' Attitudes Toward Disruptive New Technologies: Mixed-Methods Study

2018

Background Recent discoveries in the fields of machine learning (ML), Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA), computerized adaptive testing (CAT), digital phenotype, imaging, and biomarkers have brought about a new paradigm shift in medicine. Objective The aim of this study was to explore psychiatrists’ perspectives on this paradigm through the prism of new clinical decision support systems (CDSSs). Our primary objective was to assess the acceptability of these new technologies. Our secondary objective was to characterize the factors affecting their acceptability. Methods A sample of psychiatrists was recruited through a mailing list. Respondents completed a Web-based survey. A quantitative…

Examining key drivers of consumer experience with (non-financial) digital services : An exploratory study

2020

Recent advancements in the field of mobile information systems have transformed the consumer lifestyle as well as have changed the digital service landscape globally. This exploratory study identifies and describe key marketing drivers of consumer experience with non-financial transactions available on mobile banking apps. Data were gathered using semi-structured in-depth interviews from 12 respondents in Finland during March and April 2019. The qualitative analysis of the interview transcripts revealed three emerging themes i.e. the mobile banking app experiences and sustained usage of mobile banking apps are largely affected by consumers’ level of knowledge (consumer awareness), usefulnes…

Three Stages of Consumers’ Multi-Stage Dichotomic Switching Process Pre-Switch, switch, and post-switch

2021

This research examines why and how consumers switch their mobile phones. We propose a framework that is grounded on decision-making and motivational theories and draws on the findings from a multinational qualitative survey on consumers’ mobile phone switching process. We show that consumers’ pre-switching decisions are affected by push and pull factors, their mobile phone selections are based on utilitarian or hedonic values, and their justifications for switching are based on cognition or affect. Furthermore, we identify two archetypical routes (i.e., cognitive and affective routes) and three conjoint routes that explain the dichotomic switching processes in pre-switch, switch, and post-s…

Daily rhythms of young children in the 24/7 economy : A comparison of children in day care and day and night care

2017

The study explored temporal variation in children’s moods and compared children in regular day care with those in day and night care in Finland. To examine variation in children’s experiences, a mobile diary was used. The participants comprised 32 young children and their parents and day care personnel. Adults evaluated children’s moods three times daily over 1 week. A clear weekday–weekend rhythm was found among children in day care, who displayed more negative moods, due to frequent hurried mornings. Children in day and night care had more irregular mood rhythms. Boys were evaluated as displaying more negative moods than girls. peerReviewed

Col : A Data Collection Protocol for Vanet

2012

International audience; In this paper, we present a protocol to collect data within a vehicular ad hoc network (VANET). In spite of the intrinsic dynamic of such network, our protocol simultaneously offers three relevant properties: (1) It allows any vehicle to collect data beyond its direct neighborhood (i.e., vehicles within direct communication range) using vehicle-to-vehicle communications only (i.e., the infrastructure is not required); (2) It tolerates possible network partitions; (3) It works on demand and stops when the data collection is achieved. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first collect protocol having these three characteristics. All that is chiefly obtained thanks…

UAV-Assisted Data Collection in Wireless Sensor Networks: A Comprehensive Survey

2021

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are usually deployed to different areas of interest to sense phenomena, process sensed data, and take actions accordingly. The networks are integrated with many advanced technologies to be able to fulfill their tasks that is becoming more and more complicated. These networks tend to connect to multimedia networks and to process huge data over long distances. Due to the limited resources of static sensor nodes, WSNs need to cooperate with mobile robots such as unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in their developments. The mobile devices show their maneuverability, computational and energy-storage abilities to support WSNs in mul…
