On the Analysis of a Random Interleaving Walk–Jump Process with Applications to Testing

Abstract Although random walks (RWs) with single-step transitions have been extensively studied for almost a century as seen in Feller (1968), problems involving the analysis of RWs that contain interleaving random steps and random “jumps” are intrinsically hard. In this article, we consider the analysis of one such fascinating RW, where every step is paired with its counterpart random jump. Rough nonlocal diffusions

We consider a nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation driven by a deterministic rough path which describes the conditional probability of a McKean-Vlasov diffusion with "common" noise. To study the equation we build a self-contained framework of non-linear rough integration theory which we use to study McKean-Vlasov equations perturbed by rough paths. We construct an appropriate notion of solution of the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation and prove well-posedness.

Standard forms and entanglement engineering of multimode Gaussian states under local operations

We investigate the action of local unitary operations on multimode (pure or mixed) Gaussian states and single out the minimal number of locally invariant parametres which completely characterise the covariance matrix of such states. For pure Gaussian states, central resources for continuous-variable quantum information, we investigate separately the parametre reduction due to the additional constraint of global purity, and the one following by the local-unitary freedom. Testing with a nuisance parameter present only under the alternative: a score-based approach with application to segmented modelling

ABSTRACTWe introduce a score-type statistic to test for a non-zero regression coefficient when the relevant term involves a nuisance parameter present only under the alternative. Despite the non-regularity and complexity of the problem and unlike the previous approaches, the proposed test statistic does not require the nuisance to be estimated. It is simple to implement by relying on the conventional distributions, such as Normal or t, and it justified in the setting of probabilistic coherence. A tabu search algorithm for assigning teachers to courses

2002

In this paper we deal with the problem of assigning teachers to courses in a secondary school. The problem appears when a timetable is to be built and the teaching assignments are not fixed. We have developed a tabu search algorithm to solve the problem. The parameters involved in the algorithm have been estimated by using multiple regression techniques. The computational results, obtained on a set of Spanish secondary schools, show that the solutions obtained by this automatic procedure can be favourably compared with the solutions proposed by the experts.

A quantum particle in a box with moving walls

We analyze the non-relativistic problem of a quantum particle that bounces back and forth between two moving walls. We recast this problem into the equivalent one of a quantum particle in a fixed box whose dynamics is governed by an appropriate time-dependent Schroedinger operator.

Antibacterial Activity of Flavonoids Against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains

An experimental and theoretical study was performed on the anti-staphylococcal activity of 18 natural and synthetic flavonoids against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains. The analysed flavonoids belong to three well-differentiated structural patterns: chalcones, flavanones and flavones. The quantitative analysis of the anti-staphylococcal activity of the compounds was carried out by determining their percent inhibition degree. Clusters of effects curves in quantile regression models

In this paper, we propose a new method for finding similarity of effects based on quantile regression models. Clustering of effects curves (CEC) techniques are applied to quantile regression coefficients, which are one-to-one functions of the order of the quantile. We adopt the quantile regression coefficients modeling (QRCM) framework to describe the functional form of the coefficient functions by means of parametric models. The proposed method can be utilized to cluster the effect of covariates with a univariate response variable, or to cluster a multivariate outcome.
