Body image during sexual activity in the population of Polish adult women

2020

Introduction. Recently it has been shown that body image during sexual activities is a better predictor of the diversity of sexual experience than body image as a psychological trait. To measure contextual body image (as a state) the Body Exposure During Sexual Activity Questionnaire (BESAQ) was developed. Material and methods. 845 women aged 18-55 years were included in the study. The original model was first translated into Polish and consulted to create the version to be further validated. The original model was tested using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The population was divided in two equal groups – group 1 was used for exploratory factor analysis. Discriminant and convergent va…

Machine learning for land use change analysis and modelling.

2019

Urban development can take different forms or features, depending on its geographical location and its socioeconomic, political and cultural context. Nevertheless, the overall action relies on one fundamental principle: building construction in order to give people housing. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to determine whether an underlying universal aspect of the urban development process can be distinguished from a specific one, being the reflect of local specificities. Specifically, this research analyzes the land use change on the French-German cross-border area. Indeed, the border context enhances the difference within this territory. Nonetheless, the internal European…

Green Roofs as Effective Tools for Improving the Indoor Comfort Levels of Buildings—An Application to a Case Study in Sicily

2020

In the line of pursuing better energy efficiency in human activities that would result in a more sustainable utilization of resources, the building sector plays a relevant role, being responsible for almost 40% of both energy consumption and the release of pollutant substances in the atmosphere. For this purpose, techniques aimed at improving the energy performances of buildings&rsquo

Defining collaboration rules in mechatronic Industry

2011

Small and medium companies in order to survive in the global market should promote the creation of partnerships and business networking. Thanks to business networks, in fact, they can reach efficiencies, improve their knowledge and increase their degree of internationalization. The industrial district is a very common type of business network model, especially in Italy. Belonging to an industrial district increases companies inclination to sign inter-firm collaboration contracts such as alliances, outsourcing and joint ventures. However, some Italian districts, mostly those recently constituted and localized in the south of Italy, such as the Sicilian Mechatronic District (SMD), lacks of ac…

Predicting human performance in interactive tasks by using dynamic models

2017

The selection of an appropriate sequence of activities is an essential task to keep student motivation and foster engagement. Usually, decisions in this respect are made by taking into account the difficulty of the activities, in relation to the student's level of competence. In this paper, we present a dynamic model that aims to predict the average performance of a group of students at solving a given series of maths problems. The system takes into account both student- and task-related features. This model was built and validated by using the data gathered in an experimental session that involved 64 participants solving a sequence of 26 arithmetic problems. The data collected from the fir…

Activating the implementers: The role of organizational expectations, teacher beliefs, and motivation in bringing about reform

2019

Abstract Internationally the research community has been seeking a deeper understanding about how to shape the work of educators over decades of educational reforms. This study attempts to contribute to this understanding by answering: “What motivates educators to implement the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)?” Using data from all school educators in one highly diverse school district in California and structural equation modeling to investigate the relationships between teachers' CCSS-related action and associated organizational and individual factors, findings suggest both organizational (expectation) and intrinsic (motivations and beliefs) factors are directly and indirectly influenci…

The impact of social media and offline influences on consumer behaviour. An analysis of the low-cost airline industry

2016

This study analyses the impact of social media as well as offline environments upon tourist online purchase and recommendation behaviour of low-cost airline services. Drawing on the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), this research considers the effect of offline social influences (interpersonal and external influences) and analyses online Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C) information exchanges as a driver of customer attitude towards online purchases. We propose that these factors improve online repurchase intentions and positive word-of-mouth communication (WOM and e-WOM) in low-cost settings. Using structural equation modelling, the conceptual model is tested with a sample of 441 Spanish Internet …

Investigation of inhibitory effects on EPC-mediated neovascularization by different bisphosphonates for cancer therapy.

2013

Bisphosphonates (BPs) are potent drugs, used in metastatic cancer-like prostate or breast carcinoma. In recent studies, besides reduced bone remodeling, influences on angiogenesis and neovascularization were reported. Since BPs have the tendency to accumulate in the bones, the biological effect of various nitrogen- and non-nitrogen BPs on endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) that originated from bone marrow and mobilized under physiological and pathophysiological conditions, such as tumor neovascularization, was investigated. EPCs subsequent to 72-h treatment with different concentrations of bisphosphonates comprised the non-nitrogen-containing BP clodronate and the nitrogen-containing BPs i…
