Lifelong learning and the English language : the significance of studying English voluntarily at adult age
2014

Linking bean-to-bar to sustainable entrepreneurship
2017
The increasing growth and recognition of bean-to-bar chocolate production have led to some people calling it a ”movement” or ”revolution”. The entrepreneurs championing bean-to-bar assert that their approach provides better and innovative services to both cocoa farmers (growers) and consumers. In essence, they are meaningfully contributing to the sustainable transformation of the cocoa industry. Furthermore, researchers agree that a concept that combines elements from both sustainability and entrepreneurship is called sustainable entrepreneurship. Therefore, are bean-to-bar chocolate producers sustainable entrepreneurs? In an attempt to answer this question, this thesis explores the links b…
Affect in the Context of Self-Determination Theory
2018
Self-determination theory has been applied to understand the role of affect in motivation and behavior in health contexts. According to self-determination theory, autonomous forms of motivation, reflecting self-endorsed reasons for acting and the satisfaction of psychological needs, are related to participation and persistence in health behavior. Research examining the role of affect in determining health behavior from the perspective of the theory is relatively sparse. Affect has served as both an outcome and process in applications of the theory to health behavior. Positive affect and psychological well-being have been identified as important outcomes of participating in behaviors for aut…

2020
As teachers’ reading motivation and self-efficacy for promoting reading motivation can be considered vital for their reading-oriented promotive teaching practices and students’ reading motivation, this study evaluated the impact of a year-long CPD program for beginning primary school teachers. A convergent parallel mixed-methods design with repeated measures was established, including a comparison and two CPD conditions (group vs. individually-oriented). Based on the quantitative results only no clear impact of and differences between the conditions could be observed. The qualitative analysis, however, showed growth in teachers’ reading motivation and self-efficacy at a different pace and l…
Readers’ Theater Projects for Special Education : A Randomized Controlled Study
2022
A randomized controlled trial was conducted to study the effectiveness of two readers’ theater (RT) programs in promoting reading skills and motivation of dysfluent readers in Grades 3–4. One program (RT Goal) included a goal of preparing a performance for an audience (n = 50), while another program (RT Practice) did not include such a goal (n = 49). A group of dysfluent readers receiving traditional oral reading intervention (Control group; n = 59) and a group of classroom peers (Mainstream group; n = 159) served as controls. The results indicate that both RT groups and the Control group developed at a higher rate in oral reading speed during the intervention period than the Mainstream gro…
