Purpose: Hypoxia shifts the balance of cellular energy production toward glycolysis with lactate generation as a by-product. Quantitative bioluminescence imaging allows for the quantitation of lactate concentrations in individual tumors. Transbuccal tablets of carbamazepine: formulation, release and absorption pattern.

Tranbsuccal drug administration is an attractive method, as it has several advantages especially with respect to peroral delivery. Here we report: i) the aptitude of carbamazepine (CBZ) to penetrate porcine buccal mucosa and reconstituted human oral (RHO) epithelium; ii) three different tablet formulations for transbuccal administration; iii) the drug release rate from tablets. The Double-Door Tongue Flap for Total Cheek Muscosa Defects

Lining of total cheek mucosa defects can be accomplished by opening the tongue along its lateral border and preparing two myomucosa flaps that can be swung upward and downward like a double door to be sutured into the defect. The tongue is released 3 weeks later in a second-stage operation. The operation is quick and easy compared with other methods to achieve lining for such defects. Tongue function is not impaired after healing of the second-stage operation.

Role of pulp in flavor release and sensory perception in orange juice

This work elucidates the role of suspended solids in sensorial perception and flavor release in orange juice. The coarsest pulp (insoluble particles with a diameter of2 microm) accounted for two major physicochemical effects in orange juice samples: it retained large amounts of aroma compounds, including terpenes and aldehydes, and modified the rheological properties of the juice matrix. These phenomena strongly affected the chemical composition of the vapor phase in the juice samples. Understanding retention and metabolization of aroma compounds using an in vitro model of oral mucosa.

International audience; The mechanism leading to aroma persistence during eating is not fully described. This study aims at better understanding the role of the oral mucosa in this phenomenon. Release of 14 volatile compounds from different chemical classes was studied after exposure to in vitro models of oral mucosa, at equilibrium by Gas-Chromatography-Flame Ionization Detection (GC-FID) and in dynamic conditions by Proton Transfer Reaction- Mass Spectrometry (PTR-MS).
