Ellis-Van Creveld Syndrome. Case report and literature review

Ellis-van Creveld syndrome is a genetic disorder that was first described by Richard Ellis and Simon van Creveld in 1940. The four principal characteristics are chondrodysplasia, polydactyly, ectodermal dysplasia and congenital heart defects. The orofacial manifestations include multiple gingivolabial musculofibrous fraenula, dental anomalies, hypodontia and malocclusion. The disease can be diagnosed at any age, even during pregnancy. The differentiation should be made between Jeune syndrome and other orofaciodigital syndromes.
Erupted odontomas: a report of three cases and review of the literature

Introduction: Odontomas are benign odontogenic tumors composed of enamel, dentine, cement and pulp tissue.They are usually clinically asymptomatic, but often associated with tooth eruption disturbances. In exceptional cases the odontoma erupts into the mouth. The present study reports three cases of odontomas erupted into the oral cavity and reviews the literature.Clinical cases: The fi rst case was an 11-year-old girl with impacted 4.6 associated to a radiopaque mass measuring about 2 cm in diameter. Nach kurzen Hinweis auf Histotopographie und Bedeutung von Peptidasen im Carcinomgewebe wurde uber die Leucin-Aminopeptidase-Aktivitat des Blutserums bei 53 Patienten der Hals-Nasen-Ohrenklinik mit vorwiegend malignen epithelialen Tumoren (Carcinomen) im Mund- und Halsbereich berichtet. Background To investigate the prevalence of malignant and potentially malignant lesions of the lip in an oral pathology service and to compare these data with a literature review. Material and methods A total of 3173 biopsy reports and histopathological records were analyzed. Cases with a histological diagnosis of actinic cheilitis (AC) with or without epithelial dysplasia, in situ carcinoma, or lip squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) were included. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to investigate the prevalence of AC and/or LSCC. The non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL) represent an heterogeneous group of malignancies of lymphoreticular histogenesis. In most cases, they initially arise within lymph nodes but so-called extranodal lymphomas are also found. The NHL has low incidence in the oral cavity. It may involve bone and/or soft tissues as a primary or secondary manifestation. We present a review of the literature and four clinical cases of intraoral NHL. The first couple of cases are primary forms, the third one is associated to HIV infection and the last one is an oral presentation as a component of more widely disseminated disease.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, have important extraintestinal manifestations, notably in the oral cavity. These oral manifestations can constitute important clinical clues in the diagnosis and management of IBD, and include changes at the immune and bacterial levels. Aphthous ulcers, pyostomatitis vegetans, cobblestoning and gingivitis are important oral findings frequently observed in IBD patients.
