Context metadata to adapt Ambient Learning Environments

Ambient learning and knowledge environments (ALKE) are a promising concept for new methods of learning and in particular adapted, personalized learning environments. However, currently very few approaches specify concepts for adaptation. We present a metadata approach to identify and (automatically) derive the context of learning environments as a basis for adaptation. The concept has been partially validated in a scenario of ldquoSpontaneous Group Learningrdquo in Higher Education.

Sistēma veidota ar nodomu, ka nākotnē tiktu veidoti projekti, kuru ietvaros tiktu izveidota lietotāju saskarne, gan kā tīmekļa lapas, gan mobilā lietotne. Sistēma atbalsta lietotāju pārvaldi un ļauj ierobežot lietotāju piekļuvi saskarnes punktiem.
Comparison of perceptually uniform quantisation with average error minimisation in image transform coding

An alternative transform coder design criterion based on restricting the maximum perceptual error of each coefficient is proposed. This perceptually uniform quantisation of the transform domain ensures that the perceptual error will be below a certain limit regardless of the particular input image. The results show that the proposed criterion improves the subjective quality of the conventional average error criterion even if it is weighted with the same perceptual metric.
Placing links in mobile banking application

This study compares two alternative ways to organize links as navigation elements in mobile banking applications. For the comparison, two alternative banking applications were tested. The applications that were tested had the same content but different ways to navigate with links. One of them provided a system where the user was required to use specific menu pages for navigation and where there were no cross-navigation enabling links on content pages. Currently, the hardware features of most mobile phones makes them a natural platform for CAR systems. In this article we refer to the market of vehicular networks, where groups of customers located in the same public vehicle (e.g., a train or bus) connect to a terrestrial network through a wireless/satellite backbone link. Elastic buffering is a proxy management technique devised to decouple the multimedia information retrieval rate on the network backbone from the playout streaming rate at the user terminal. This paper presents a virtual reality based solution for learning. Multimodal interactions are proposed to support students’ engagement through active experimentation and reflective observation. Students tasks are provided within an immersive virtual outdoor environment created using a human-centred design approach. Junior high school teachers and students between ages 14 and 16 were involved in design and test activities. Observations, video recordings, and interviews were used in data collection. Abstract In many Internet videos authors appear in front of the camera to present their particular view on a topic. Given the high consumption rate of Internet videos by teenagers, we explored the pros and cons of using these videos to learn about complex topics, compared to learning from textual web pages. Specifically, we studied how 207 primary school students (grades 4–6) evaluated and integrated multiple and multimodal web pages (text or video) while learning about the pros and cons of bottled water. Digital imaging is becoming predominant in radiology. This has implications for teaching support, because conventional film-based concepts are now obsolete. The IHE Teaching File and Clinical Study Export (TCE) profile provides an excellent platform to enhance PACS infrastructure with educational functionality.
